your going to look like a sick ricer if you don't paint it a regular glossy color.

i primed my car in black a long time ago thinking i would leave it like that and drive it. it looked ok back then, when i was workin on mostly trucks and and air systems. i would not do it now, the max needs a nicer look. on a related note, i am buying an s14 pretty soon which i am seriously considering painting flat black. but this time i'll do it right; 2 stage with a semi gloss clear. did you end up shaving the molding? any pics? be prepared to be flamed on this also, not everybody is going to understand the scene you're coming from. and fit that hood...

no no pics yet don't want too many people to laugh at me for what they don't know lol, i have weld spotes, bondo, fibergalss, spots of the factory pearl white, gray parimer, and black paint for a guide coat, ya this is my first car to have besides my IS300 and i don't wanna customize that lol, i always work on mini trucks some fullsizes too, and i am about to lay down a black primer sealer before the black paint and wanted the peoples opinion on the flat look, i was also thinking about doing a theme for this car since it is going to be a show car and i was going to do flat black with some sort of tearaway in small parts on the car with airbrushed rivets like an airplain or a tank would have, if i did this i would dedicate my car to the troops in iraq cuz i almost was one, thought it might be a good idea

yeah i can tell a mini truckers car when i see it. i would stay away from themes/graphics on this one. i would pick a nice single glossy color or maybe even a two tone. is the pic in your sig the kit you're using? if so i would consider a true blue. progress picks ftw. i wish i had taken pics over the last 5 yrs. especially the stuff i scrapped before i ever finshed. i would've had picks for just about every ? you have ever asked.

Why would you want to pay money to make your car look like a primermobile?

i was asking if it would look good to do the flat black look not primer, flat black paint is semi glossy and much much darker, it just doesn't shine as much

some ppl do there own work (not me anymore, couple screws and a plate took care of that). when you build your own car sometimes you stop between steps. its not like dropping your car off and sayin i want it this color. flat is actually a pretty hot trend in some circles.

Check out hotrod.com and look for their project car called the "F-Bomb". It's an early 70's Camaro painted camo green with a satin finish. They have an extensive summary of how they achieved the finish. I think a black car with a satin finish would kick a**. Check out the "F-bomb" graphics on the front quarters.

i'm the same way. my car is getting repainted super black after my front end conversion is done. handles, antenna, and trunk will be shaved, bags over coilovers on machined 19s, imported body kit. sounds similar to yours but the look will be very different. should be out of the paint shop in about 4 months, that should give you an idea of quality. then like i said the s14 i'm about to buy will go in for the super black treatment. maybe gloss, maybe flat...

i just think with the kit you got, a flashier color would finish off the style. but obviously i don't have to tell you how to build a car.

Next spring, I am going to be painting my car in a matte gunsmoke metallic paint (after I get the stillen lip and side-skirts). I don't want super gloss, I don't want primer color either, but "just right". I dont want to see a reflection in my car, but still have some shine to it. When I do it, I'm going to document everything and post in on the org, but I'm sure I'll still get by a lot of people here. Who cares? I know I'm going to like it, and It'll be different from everyone elses cookie-cutter max (though some orgers have far from cookie-cutter cars)

That looks like sh#t. Not every car can pull off the flat black, and the maxima isnt one of them.
Older cars like rat rods can pull it off and look good doing it.

Here is another one,

Just looks unfinished. The max is too new of a car to pull of the flat black theme.

Flat black has to be done just right. IMHO I think its harder to do than just reg. paint. The 2 examples given look like they were done by any ole body shop or a can of spray paint. Properly done it can look amazing. Example (granted, the car would look amazing even if it were painted hot pink):

i gotta agree, that lambo looks nice but its definitely something for older cars other than that. Im going to do it to my el camino, but wouldnt want to do it to my maxima.

The lambo looks like more of a Semi gloss black or Low gloss black rather than a straight flat black.

i guess i'm over the black thing cause none of those look good to me (did i just say a lambo and a porsche didn't look good!?). i really wanted to build a 72 c10 in flat black but i guess tastes change as time goes on. glossy s14 here i come.

this car look completely like **** but for one reason, it is rattlecanned primer, and the lambo is a matte black, but i would call it a flat, so then i would rephrase my question should i paint my cr a "matte" black, it would turn out just like the lambo except i would paint my missros the same color, not leave them glossy

and one thing i love about my car is the r34 kit, it is different, you don't see to many of the .org having them if any at all, so a color that would accent it would be amazing with it

My old supra. Personally i loved it but, if i had a choice of flat black or gloss black id go with the gloss.... It does not look right on the Maxima, Id say just stay away from flat black.

please do not. the max is not a car that can pull flat black off. btw +1 on that lamborghini being matte black, not flat.

Lesson #1 children:

You can NEVER get a good look using friggin aerosol cans.^^^ That is not a good look.
If your gonna do flat black, at least have macco doit for 200 bucks. If ya can't afford it, your better off not doing it at all.

that might not be rattle can... looks like a gun with dry spray.

lesson #2:

just don't do it.
