transmission swap?

how much could i get a used 5spd for my 97 maxima. the gears are apparently shot in mine and the stealership wants 2000+ to take it down and fix it,im thinking if i get a used 5speed without a clutch/flywheel/throw out bearings/pressure plate. just the casing and the transmission gears, how much do you think that would cost. just put my current stuff in and ditch the old tranny with bad gears.....2000+ isent worth it to me considering i got the car for 1200.... and id love to keep my max,im inlove with it,and i dont wanna switch cars again lol

getting a used 5spd trans is kind of hard to find.

How do you know that your gears are shot, it can be your bearings.

The only other option would be to piece it together yourself (check the 4th gen for sale thread as I saw a few 5spd swap parts). Then try to find someone local that would be willing to install (that knows what they are doing). Depending on who does it, you would end up saving.

pm dave "dgeesman" he rebuilds 5 speed maxima trannys and he knows his stuff. He will sell you a very sturdy 5 speed rebuilt tranny that will last and it will be far less than the dealership and better than taking a guess buying one from the bone yard.
