well...

How do you know the alarm doesn't engage? Does the little red dash light stay solid for 30 seconds then start blinking? If you roll down the passenger window, get out, hit the "arm" button, and then reach inside and open the door, does the horn honk?

what exactly does the factory alarm do anyways, they don't go into details about the alarm in the manual. I haven't even been able to figure out how to set it off.

Sounds like it may be time for an aftermarket alarm. The factory alarm doesn't have a shock sensor, and it sounds like yours isn't working at all, so it's a good time to upgrade! Just be glad you found this out instead of some criminal.

i thought it said in the owners manual that the alarm does not work if the windows are down. TEST ALARM: get in the car. make sure the windows are up. hold the key in ur hand, push the lock button. wait 30 sec until the security light starts to flash and then pull on the lock(the thingy above the door handle). the alarm should go off

Do you mean you turn off the car and open the door? My 96 GXE does this: if either one door, or the hood, or the trunk is open, the LED will blink with a faster speed than when the alarm is set (30 seconds after everything is locked).

nope...

no.. I mean as soon as the engine is off the security light comes on. I know I can set off the alarm by using the panic button; I haven't gotten a chance to try the door opening thing yet (actually it's more like I keep forgetting). Thx.

Mine's not working either :(

Man.. all the buttons on the key fob work, the security light flashes (see above), though not necessarily the right way, but I can't manage to set the alarm off. Looks like I'm having the exact same problem as MightyMax. Any suggestions before I bring it to the dealer?

while on the subject of the factory alarm...Is there any way to add a shock sensor to the factory alarm? i found out it'd cost a grip to get all the features the factory alarm already has plus shock sensors.

Just wondering if the 5th gen alarm is any better than ours? Does it have a shock sensor? Thanks.

My brother had the same prob he took it to the dealer and it was a relay for the alarm.I would say check the relays also try disconnecting the battery for 5 min then connect it and see if it works.
