I thought the 5.0 stopped in 93? The 94 is the 4.6 right?

Let me School you guys

I have owned 4 Mustangs in the past. All of which were the "Tin Can". I favor the Stang over any other vehicle for upgrading simply for the well...."simplicity"

79-93 were known as the Fox Body. All the same body and chassis. 87-93 share the same headlight design. 79-86 share the same body, but with small variances. All came with a 302 (5.0), unless it was a 4 cyl. base model.

94-95 was known as the SN-95 platform. The 94-95's are boats compared to the Fox Body. You probably ran a stock Stang, with an amateur driver. Those did include the 302 (5.0) in the GT form. The base model has the 3.8 V-6 that is still shared with the newer base models.

in 1996 they switched to a modular engine. This engine is still used in the 2002 Stangs. The GT's use SOHC type heads on the relatively same engine block. The Cobra's use a DOHC type head for their engines. 1996-1998 Share the body style and engine combinations.

99-02 Share the same body style and engine as well.

Had a friendly race with my friend who was driving a 2k Stock Mustang on Rt.18 (NJ). Weaving thru traffic for a mile and pushing the Max hard, I came out on top
Thank god it was auto *whew*
To think a Max can run against 'stang in a stretch, you (and your non-boosted Max)is asking for punishment. Given some driving skills and a not-so-straight road, it's fair gain.

I was

a proud owner of a corner carver. I could hang with the best of some imports in the twisties. However. On the 1320 (1/4 mile) I spent 1k on mods for my 5 speed Coupe 5.0 and ran a 13.7 at 99. Not too shabby.

The only problem I have what you said is that the 99 and up 3.8L V-6 has 40 more horsepower than the 98 and down and the 4.8L V-8 has 25 more horsepower. A link for some reading material.. Hey, I'm a girl.. but we stil know something about cars..

Mustang,

I didn't address many of the specs, but they did have the same engine combinations. I am not too fond of late model stangs, therefore I don't know a whole lot.

Nope, I don't take mine to the track... I really have no desire to, the only thing I would want to put my car through is autox.. it kinda gets pampered..

I C

I would definatly take the Maxima to some AutoX events, just for the fun of it. The Mustang is for pure nitty gritty grudge racing. There is alot to keeping consistant times in a 5 speed.

I've raced a few 5.0s out at the track, and I never know what kind of race I'll have until we get the green light. I have won most of these match-ups, but a couple times I got beat. I think those "fast" cars were spraying. But they didn't beat me too badly... If I had been spraying too, I'd have MAULED 'em pretty badly, I'm sure. :-)

mustang1999

i still think fords are BLAH because....
1.) it's funny how that stupid cobra r has to cost an extra 30 or 40k just to be SLOWER than a cheaper zo6 corvette that has airconditioning and a friggin stereo but i guess the cobra r does have recaro seats right...whoopty friggin do....
2.) the only mustang i would ever own would be a saleen s351, a buddy of mine has a 2000 and THAT thing is faster than ****.

The 4.6 cam in midyear on the 94's. You could actually have the 1994 body with the last of the 5.0's in it. My friend has this setup. Not quite as common but possible.

Good point about the horse power on the 6-banger stang but he said it shares the same motor in which it does. It just has a different intake and I believe they improved the heads. And also I dont know if it was a typo or not but they don't make a 4.8 liter. On everthing else he is 100% accurate. By the way the "tin can" was the best mustang ever(I had an 89). Except the 5.0 in the 94&95 were slower because ford tried to go economical and changed the heads and intake and starved the motor.
By the way good kill! Slow or not it is still a V-8 sports car you spanked.

grrr..

OK here it goes, final word on what engines are in what year:

1987-1993-5.0L pushrod Windsor (the "5.0") in the Fox body
1994-1995 - same 5.0L pushrod Windsor in the SN95 body
1996+ 4.6l OHC/DOHC modular

Nope. 5.0, 4.6 only. The 5.0 was actually a 4.9 (4998 cubic cm) but never was there a 4.8L.
