Well, after doing the 5spd swap, everything works perfect except one minor issue... when we did the swap we used the old clutch b/c I thought I was going to order a new one. I got the mistake of getting home, and in a hurry went to NAPA and got a "Dynapak" clutch kit for the maxima... My problem before had been that the clutch, at random times, would slip. Like if it got hot it would start slipping pretty bad, well, real bad. But other times it would lock up perfect. The shift to 2nd gear was the ultimate test, b/c it would slip everytime w/ the original clutch.

So, I purchased my new clutch kit for 180$ at autozone, came home, dropped my tranny, put in the new clutch properly (making sure to clean the greasy flywheel... thats trouble in itself, and sanded it with 250grit sandpaper)

I took it out for a run, it felt GREAT although I never ran it hard AT ALL b/c I knew your supposed to run easy on them atfirst ? About 300 miles later (that week) I was sitting at a light next to a heavily modded integra... I couldnt help it, time to see how the clutch really worked!! we took off, 1st gear (since I wasnt used to having it catch, and this was my first run HARD on a maxima w/ 5spd) I spun a lot.... then the shift into 2nd, my wheels just SPUN again... I was like YEAHHHHHH ITS FIXED!!! and then needless to say I KICKED HIS BUTT.... I was soo happy that the clutch worked... so the next day, I couldnt help but to run it again. it ran right, but a little later it started doing the same thing as before... slipping when it got "hot"

So I checked into some more stuff b/c now it slips a lot again... did I not wait long enough to break it in ? There is NO clutch burning smell when it slips... I have heard that you need to use ONLY NISSAN PRESSURE PLATES and not the crappy autozone stuff? can this be true - do I need to buy a new pressure plate from nissan and a factory clutch ?

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!! SCCA runs saturday... I'm already missing MAXUS b/c of this bullcrap clutch slipping problem...

The proper Clutch break in period is different between different clutches. The general rule of thumb is to 500 easy miles for proper break in. In the future be easy on a new clutch for a tleast 500 city miles.

If your looking for a new Clutch try Courtesy Nissan{under Maxima links} , I just bought a new Clutch and plate for about $180. BTW mention that you are a amxima org member and they give you 20% off!

Just buy an ACT street clutch kit...and it will NEVER slip again.
