I want to know if 95-99 maxima needs a wheel alingment in the back and other cars with solid axle in the back. Because my friend got new shocks on his 96 DODGE NEON, ONLY in the back and the mechanic made him get the wheel alignment on front and back. He left and dint see him doing it. So before i tell him his a Dum As* i want to know if i am wright that he dont need it?

The Maxima has only front toe adjustable. So, if you do get an alignment, all you need is front wheel alignment. If you get a four wheel alignment, they will align the front wheels and will measure how off the rears are, but can't do anything about it.

I got the lifetime four wheel alignment from Firestone. There was no two wheel lifetime. Cost was $120, and I've had around five alignments already. Got my money's worth on it.

I have heard about this but was kind of leery. Do you have to drop your car off or wait long for this service? NTB is stickin' it too me. Now they say all they have is a four wheel alignment (no more two wheel) and that it is $59.95 ($10 more than their two wheel a couple of years ago). I'd say with the Firestone deal, I'd get my money's worth in a couple of years. I'm wondering if you can go to any branch though...

Both front and rear toe-in can be adjusted on our cars; therefore, our cars are amenable to four-wheel alignments. Generally, a technician will check and true-up your rear wheels, then do the same for the front to ensure that all four tires are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other.

Steve, do the suspension first. The reason for your trouble is the damaged real struts, not the alignment. Worry about the struts first.

Actually for 4th and 5th gens with the rear beam axle, only the front toe is adjustable. If you don't believe me, look up the specs in the FSM. Or you can call any alignment shop with a computer database and they will confirm that for you. Paying for a four wheel alignment on a Maxima will get the fronts adjusted, and the rear wheels measured but not adjusted.

This is in reply to the question above about the lifetime alignment. Generally most shops are busy so you will have to make an appointment if you want immediate service when you show up. The alignment takes two hours, because they work so slow, but I usually drop the car off and pick it up the end of the day.

NTB will redo w/in 6 months; Rear should always be checked

NTB will check and redo anytime for 6 months, 6000 miles. So, for $60 you can get at least two alignments, more if you like.

Get a 4-wheel and stop whining. It's not that the alignment is the rear can't be out, just that you can't fix it by turning an adjuster. Generally if something is out in the rear, then something needs to be replaced. You won't know unless you check. What good is aligning the front if the rear isn't right ?

actually it's my shocks, the front ones still are in good shape, but they were replaced at 60K the rears are originals. i'm looking at the Gr-2's because i'm gonna get sprints once my nos is paid for. anyone heard about the gr-2's.

Maybe on an nonlowered Maxima the rear suspension can be fixed by replacing a bent or broken part, but on a lowered Maxima, the rear can be off (due to lowering) and that can't be fixed. I agree that most shops will charge you for a four wheel alignment anyways, and I suppose paying a little extra to see how much the rear is off isn't a bad idea.
