I just installed a cheap cone intake, and now my check engine light is on. Anyone know why? I got suckered into buying this thing on ebay from larry Goldman's. I thought I was getting a JWT intake with a K&N filter, but it was the old bait & switch. I got some cheap S&B thing, I've never heard of them. It is ridiculously loud when I get on it. Is that normal, or is it because of this crappy part? Thanks for any advice you guys have.

You asked for "any advice you guys have." Here is my advice. It may not be what you wanted to hear, but here it is.

Remove the cheap cone intake. Install the stock parts. Reset the Check Engine Light. Swear off mods.

What year do you have? It's an important question.

Its probubly not the intake ! I bought a generic cone air intake off ebay, and my max has a nice deep gurgle when I get on the gas, and you can hear it sucking in air !

Your engine light is on becuase you detached the temp. sensor from the stock box. I put the thing back into the new intake, took the car into a local "Z-Doctors" shop and got it reset for 30 bucks.

I donno about your intake, but mine is quality built, and has been good for me.

Thats the link to the intake I bought. Have a look.

Layta~

You can reset the ECU for free. http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html, but get the code first. BTW, the Ambient Air Temperature sensor is attached to the side of the top piece of stock airbox. You could drill a hole into the black box closer to the throttle and install it there, but that is COMPLETELY at your own risk.

The black box that I am talking about is the same one that the air breather comes off of, I didn't mean the MAFS. BTW, this only applies to a '95, I believe the rest have MAPS.

I have a 98 GLE. I'm glad it's just a matter of resetting and not a problem.

I tried to go to http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html and it came up as a 404 error, whatever that means. What code do I need?

That might have happened because you clicked on the URL which (unfortunately) had a trailing comma. Click on your own post's URL (shown in green, above) and it should work. Does for me.

Thanks man. I appreciate the advice, and you're probably right. I just got my max in April, i've never had anything but a 4cyl., and now that I've started I just can't stop. I love the speed man, I love the speed.
