94' Ford Ranger Splash bought with 15k, sold with 45k.
4litre V6/5spd. I could smoke em' into third..with bald tires...when it was wet outside...going down a hill...with a huge tail wind...ha! Seriously it had tons of torque!
90' Pontiac Grand AM GTO. Bought with 45k; Sold with 65k.
2.3 Litre Quad Four H.O./5spd....sheer madness! It fell victim to Rust. I talked Pontiac into repainting it under warranty for free....then I sold it! That thing was a screamer!
92' Acura Integra GSR bought with 50k sold with 99k.
1.7 litre VTEC/5spd; no torque. Boy was it fun above
4k though!
89' Nissan Maxima GXE. Bought new....sold with 30k on it in 94'. 3.0 litre V6/auto. Boring.......but realiable!
90' 300zx Bought with 30k, sold three years later with 39k Red 3.0 litre V6/ 5spd! Chicks dig these cars!
95' Nissan Maxima SE. Bought new in 6/94 with 5.4 miles.
Still have it with 62k after 6 years. Never changed a thing other than a battery and one oxygen sensor...some tires, rims, shocks, air intake, muffler..window tint, stereo...ok!! Damn it, I lied! I did change a few things..back off!

How about you guys?

The ultimate Mixture? I want:
-Tranny from the Integra.
-The brute force of the engine from the Pontiac with the Nissan reliability to put that engine together
-The relability of the Maximas'.
-The interior of the 300zx.
-The utility of the Ford Ranger.
-The overall up-in-your-face...you wanna piece of this boy?....looks that I get in the current 95 SE.....

Lifes a journey...enjoy the ride

Humm...gotta think over the 10 years I've been driving...
1) '82 Olds Estate Wagon w/ a 450 Chevy Long-block replacement engine. That wagon could haul ***! Parent's car...drove it until I was given a:

2) '79 Cutlass w/a small V-8...never thought I'd wish to drive a station wagon until I drove this thing...SLOW by comparison. But the SW just didn't fit the image. This wouldn't do, so I saved and bought a:

3) '69 Ford Mustang Fastback. This car cooked if you could keep its nose straight and prevent the rear end from whipping around. Loud as hell, 3-speed manual. I Could smoke the tires from standing in third gear. Gave this car to my little sister to aquire a:

4) '84 Porsche 911. 6-carbeurator setup! FAST!!! and could handle a hell of a lot better than the Mustang...until I blew the engine...just as well because by this time I was about to go off to college.

5) After a year of college, I got married: Wife and I shared a '93 Geo Storm GSI (a little rocket)and a

6) '93 Isuzu Rodeo (good for Wisconsin Winters).

7) We had kids, so we sold the storm and got a '93 Taurus. Moved to MD. Replaced 3 trannys within 5 months in that POS and traded it in for a

8) '98 Altima She still has this car and loves it... about 2 months afrer getting that one, the Rodeo died, so I bought my

9) '98 Maxima...Thrilled w/ it...Might step up to a 540i after I kill this one, but for now I'm content.

Somewhere between the cutlass and the Mustang was a Subaru Legacy, but that was hardly worth mentioning.

8 years of driving, here's what I've had:
1989 Ford Probe GL (I thought it was pretty cool when I was 16)
1991 Infiniti G20 (Fabulous car, I hope my girlfriend buys one so I can borrow it.)
1996 Toyota Hiace and 1995 Toyota Lite-ace (Foreign market minivans, when I lived in Costa Rica. Long story.)
1993 Ford Probe SE ("Extra" car my parents had that I drove while I decided I wanted a Maxima)
1995 Maxima GLE

I've also put 5000 or so miles each on my dad's 95 SVX and my mom's 98 ML320, and a couple thousand on my brother's 97 Altima SE, my other brother's 70 Plymouth Satellite, and my grandpa's 99 Lincoln Continental.

Plus, I traded my Max for a Wrangler for a month or so when I was on an off-roading kick. Lots of attention from girls, but was no fun at all on the freeway. I figured out that dirtbiking was a lot cheaper than off-roading, and the consequences are a lot less if you mess up. And I don't have to give up my car.

Then, I had a 98 Range Rover 4.0SE for a couple of months while my friend was out of town. Biggest piece of junk I've ever driven, every day something new would go wrong with that truck. On the other hand, I felt like the biggest pimp driving it.

I figured out the other day that I have driven 60+ cars in the last year. I borrow anybody's car that will let me, especially if it's a stick. My favorite was a 98 XK8 convertible.

I'm hoping that sometime in the near future I can pick up a 91 SE-R or an early Miata for a project/autocross car, but we'll see how things go when I graduate.

6 years worth

of driving-- but sure as heck feels longer than that for me. I started out in high school...

84 Nissan Sentra...interesting vehicle when I went on my first date...alright!! I am a late bloomer.

87 Acura legend--pretty amazing vehicle...had it forever and it drove well and I would say in certain areas, it is the equal of my 97 max...

93 Camry v6LE...pretty good engine...of course it shares the same engine with the es300, and I do notice the tranny is smoother in the auto than that of the Maxima...and power delviery is smoother and better...but it handled like a fat pig on the road.

97 Max...quite a car, of course those damn rattles are beginning to annoy the hell out of me.

I think I am going to write a complaint letter and if you guys like, sign your name...i am going to address it to the Maxima design team.

=)

First was a 1984 Olds Cutless(or is it Gutless) Supreme... a boat of a car, but i liked it. Zero power, not even for merging in traffic. Ddin't last too long.

Second car 1992 Honda Civic LX 4 door automagic. Slow, but handled very well with very simple upgrades. Had it from 17K miles till 145K+ then sold it when I got the max.

Third car 1998 Maxima... rattles rattles rattles... but it's comfy.

Fourth car 1991 Honda CRX Si... bought with only 56k miles... not has 78k? Love it.

that's all for me.

Been driving for 13 years (legally)--->

1st car:
1982 Honda Civic 4 dr. (with the BIG motor) It was a 1.5, that I tweaked. Custom cold-air ram intake, straight thru exhaust. No muffer, no cat, no NOTHING, just a 2 inch pipe from where the cat used to be to the tail of the car. Had 115k when I bought it, had 148k when it died. (ex was driving it, it overheated, she continued to drive, and turned the motor into a paperweight)

2nd car:
1979 Chrysler LeBaron. 2dr, white with white and red interion (seats were white leather, carpeting was red) From the front, this car looked identical to the Gran Fury police cars that were still running around in the early 90's. I never had a problem passing people onthe highway, they saw the grille and the lights and JUMPED out of my way.
I proceeded to put 2% limo tint on all the windows.
Car also had a 360 HP (not Horsepower, but the name was 360 HP, for high-performance) engine with 225 HP. I tweaked it with aftermarket goodies like Supercoil, U-groove plugs, rebuilt carb (did it myself and drilled my own jets). Custom exhaust with Flowmasters, etc. With the 3.55 Sure-grip rear and 235/60/15's this baby could haul ***. Unfortunately it weighed 4000lbs, so it could only muster a 15.3 in the 1/4, but at 91 mph with a horrible 60' of 2.5's. On the top end, I clocked it (using a stopwatch) at approximately 143 mph. That puppy flew, from a 60mph roll, I could waste many a car.

3rd car. 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. This was mom's car that I took over. Car sucked, and it was totalled at 60k. That was the best thing that happened to that car.

4th car
Dad's 1983 Dodge B150 Ram wagon. Dad wasn't driving it (he was sick) so I took it. Proceeded to tint it, add booming system to it. Added crash bar and fog lights to it. Some meaty tires 245/50/15's on white wagon wheels. That truck looked really nice. With a wimpy 318 in it, it would barely chirp the tires, but it attracted loads of attention with a straight thru SINGLE exhaust. All I had in that exhaust was a glasspack.. Got that one with75k, gave it back to dad with 105k. After Dad died, I gave it to my uncle, who is still driving it today with 110k onit. STill looks damn good.

5th car
1985 Mercury Capri 5.0.
Bought this baby for $2200 from my insurance salesman. Had 40k on the clock. It was auto with that dreaded CFI. Nicely equipped and relatively rare, I loved it. Proceeded to restore it. New carpet, paint, suspension, Walker Exhaust, and other little goodies. I put $2500 into it, drove it for 3yrs, and put another 30k on the clock. I then sold it in mint condition for $3200.. I loved that car.

1) Learned how to drive in a 4x4 Blazer, and took the **** off-roading.

2) 1983 Maxima, awesome car that even talked!, Zero problems except for the rust. Got totaled in a hit and run, sold it for $1000 after the crash.

3) 1986 RX-7, most fun to drive by far. 1st 5-speed I every had, still have it with 260,000 miles on the original engine and clutch. It fits like a glove, I can drive this car like no other car.

4) 1993 Pathfinder, good intimedator with a rough look, very realiable, but sucks too much gasoline, too slow, poor steering.

5) 1995 RX-7 R2, damn this was a bad boy. Ah, the memories this was by far the fastest car I had. I would still have it today *sigh*, but the insurance was murder. I only lost one race with this one to a Viper on a straight road

6) 1997 Maxima GLE, well except for being fwd and not having folding rear seats, I cannot complain. Best fuel economy of all the cars, with decent performance for a sedan.

Would have beens)
A)I was gonna get a 300zx instead of my last RX-7, but my right knee hit the radio dash console, not comfortable.

B)An F-150 ext. cab with the works, $30k for a pickup (I don't think so).

C)Millenia, looks sweet, but less performance and more $$$ than the Maxima (forget about it).

D) VW Passat V6, same as C).

Over my 10 years of driving I've had:

86 Accord LXi hatchback. Awesome car, reliable, hand me down from the parents, great first car. Gave it back to my mom who recently sold it with only 98K miles!!!

90 CRX Si. Bought it from my dad. Incredibly reliable car, but was a complete rattle box. Strong and peppy, it was a great car.

94 Z28 automatic. Ummmm...brute power. Wheelspin and tail happiness like no other, but it was very easy to control. It was tame while cruising, but when you mashed the fun pedal, all hell broke lose. It was a factory freak that ran 13.9s stock and 13.4s@104mph with 6 simple boltons. The 6 speed guys envied the car's launch capabilites. Never had a engine or tranny problem with the car, but I had lots of interior, exterior, HVAC, and suspension problems. Everyone should own a muscle car atleast once. Chebosto says a UPRD chipped Max feels like you're getting shot out a cannon at 3800 rpms, drive a Z28 and mash the gas at 3000 rpms and see what it feels like to be straped to a cruise missle.

96 Maxima SE. This car never ceases to impress me. With 4 simple boltons, this V6 sedan flys. Having a lightweight body and a deeply geared 5 speed make this little V6 perform. How a NA V6 sedan is capable of deep 14s is just amazing. The fit and finish of my car is well beyond any other I've ever owned. I love this car and I will have it for quite a while.

Just my second car...

I bought my 92 Maxima SE with 45k on it, drove it till 70k. Automatic but I loved the way the engine wailed above 3500 rpm with Stillen intake. Very sporty looking/driving and I loved the independent rear. My second car is my 4th gen. Maxima SE. Bought it with 94k on it, love the 5 speed and the power and extra space. Kinda miss high rpm punch and wail. But come spring my ride will no longer remain stock.
What can I say I am enjoying the ride.

It looks like we all ended up okay...

I had an 85 VW Cabrio for my first car. If I knew then what I know now, I would have had that thing slammed to the gills. Moving on...

I bought a '90 Jeep Wrangler when I graduated college. Paid $5850, spent about $500 in accessories and put a new tranny in for $1200. Sold it for $5350. And now the best part...

Bought my 97 SE. Love the thing. Can't wait to buy another one. Although I love the new Lincoln LS... but I can't be looking at cars, I want to buy a condo. So I think the Max will have about 120k on it when I get rid of it. (It still wont be paid off ...hehe)

Re: here is my list

1 My first car 1980 mazda 626 body kit rims booming stereo and a Rotary engine.
2 1987 brand new Maxima body kit Enkie rims ragtop batman wing. I loved this car it got totalled
3 In 89 bought a brand new 190E What a piece of $hit this car was built on pure hype.
4 traded the 190E and bought a brand new
300C AMG benz this was my baby white with White rims 24K gold trim. By far the best car I will ever own!!! Had to sell to take care of some legal actions.
5 I decided not to spend outrages sums of money on a car so I bought a Gtu Baretta. Back to do samething body kit rims Booming stereo neon lights chip exhaust and so on.
6 I started to like speed so I bought a GTZ baretta 5speed and swap all the old parts on this one. Still was getting my A$$ kick by hondas and Volkswagon so I traded it.
7 1996 brand new 4dr Honda Accord EX yep I decided to join the ranks off the honda crowd but I couldn't deal with the fact that the car was so slow and small->
8 I decided to keep the honda but I went out and bought a brand new 97se maxima with all the bells and whistle and thats where I stand for now. Even though I had a few car I really liked my 87 maxima the best maybe because it was the car to have then but anytime I drove it I felt like I was on top off the world. Whats next? Maybe GS400 or 430 clk or 540 BMW!!!

*SIGH*

1ST car was a 69' Datsun 510 w/ no engine, tranny suspension anything. I rebuilt that damn thing from the ground up.

2nd: was a 70' 510 that I converted from auto to 5-sp and had the 1800sss engine, 280xz struts, 280 brakes, s/t springs and f/r sways. Sorry no maxima could touch that 2400lb car in the corners.

3rd: 89 XR4TI. Wastegate actuator was broken. Could boost to about 19psi before I decided to fix it. whoo-hoo!

4th. 92 max se. Rest is current events.

1)Learned on a 1980 4 sp Datsun 510 hatchback. Slow but reliable as all get out and got great gas mileage.

2)AMC Hornet. Can't remember what year it was. Interior always had problems. Some moron totaled it by running his truck head on into it while it was sitting parked on the street.

3)Inherited a 1979 Cutless Supreme from my grandfather and shared it with my siblings. Heavy slow car but lots of space inside. Totaled by sibling who shall remain nameless.

4)1980 Ford Granada. This was the loosest car I ever drove. The back end would step out easily. Required lots of repairs, ended up replacing the engine and eventually donating the car to charity.

5)1986 Oldsmobile Delta 88. This car had the smoothest ride. Definitely the car to take a long trip in. Reasonable pickup and the huge trunk made the stock AC Delco stereo pump out good bass. But it started having a series of problems including MAF, fuel pump, engine mounts, water pump pulley, torque converter and many more. Timing belt broke and tore up the engine. Replaced it and sold it.

6) 98 Max 5 spd. Obviously the best. I will have this car a long time.

I'm a young buck so I've got a small list.

1. 1987 Mazda 323 1.3L DX... I loved that car...with my chrome hubcaps and my 12in 1977 stereo house speakers in the truck...thought it was so tight. The speedometer, gas gauge and oil light all broke...I burned up the engine.

2. 1988 Suzuki Samarai soft top. Fun to drive...loud as hell, no power anything, and very prone to getting broken into.

3. Still had the Suzuki - 1991 Honda CRX. Completely stock. I was gonna fix it up but I really wanted a nice four door, I'd been wanting a Maxima for years so I gave the CRX to my dad and traded in the Samarai for a warranty on my =

4. 1996 Starfire blue Maxima SE. I love this car....

I really really love this car... =)

memories

I gotta say that the car that I have had the most fun with was my Acura Legend...even thought by the time I had to get rid of it, I had been in an accident with a bus. In any case, the Maxima is sure my favorite, it is the one I take care of the most--but for sure, the adolesence years for me and the most happy "young" memories will be with my Acura--

my little ho'gitters

First car was 91 geo storm gsi. No torque, quick though and handled great. Drove that car like only a motocross racing, crazy as hell not a care in the world 16 year old could.
Parents took the storm away and i was poor so got a 86 chevy sprint for 300 bucks. Most fun car i ever had. Obvious POS, but for 300 bucks i abused this car in a way you can only dream of. Ran over anything near the road, took it off road, even ran over a three wheeler one time.Sold it for 100 with every body panel dnted to hell and most of the glass gone + the radiator was busted. Then got a 83 rx7 for 800 bucks. Ran great, really fun car. Especially in the snow! Sold it for 1000, got a 84 vw rabbit for 800. Drove this car everywhere. Slow, sloppy and ugly but great milage and reliable. It died with about 190k at the hands of my mom, overheated. Got a dodge colt, 92(mitsubishi), some wheels and large *** stereo. 4spd manual!Reliable. Traded that in on a 98 neon R/T. This was a really fun car. Kinda like an integra for about 6 grand less. Handled great and gave me no trouble but i traded it in cause i was putting miles on it too fast and dodge isn't known for reliability. Got the max now. Great car, but need to make it a little smaller. Got a 85 nissan truck too. Bought it in PA for 300 bucks and drove it straight to atlanta. Only 120k!

I've owned a bunch, and still do!

76 MG Midget convertible 4sp (still have it w/15k on it)
77 Ford Mustang Cobra II 302 4sp.
69 Shelby GT350 351 4sp (still have w/62k on it)
70 Pontiac GTO Judge 400 4sp (still have w/71k on it)
83 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 Convertible 4sp.
84 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 Hatchback 5sp. (well built in my drag days)
89 Honda CRX Si 5sp.(one of the most fun & reliable cars I've owned, got my HOOKED on imports!)
88 Acura Legend L 5sp. (literally the best all around car ever, acura did a terrible thing when they cut it)(200K!)
91 Honda Prelude 4ws 5sp. (loved that 4-wheel steer)
93 Honda Prelude VTEC 5sp (loved the song that engine sang)
95 Honda Accord VTEC 5sp. (did the rice thing, didn't like afterwards)
91 Mazda MX3 GS V6 5sp. (still have it, my SCCA road race car)
91 Nissan Maxima SE 5sp. (non-descipt)
93 Mazda Protege LX 5sp (still have it, wifes car, she loves it,127k on it)
96 Maxima SE 5sp (like it, still have it, but would trade it for my Legend in a split second)

So if you were paying attention, I currently still have 6 cars, including my first. And I've never owned an auto, and never will. Had my fill of domestics, will probably never buy another, I've kept the best demestics I could find. Next car to replace, the 96 Max, would either be a 95 Acura Legend GS 230hp 6sp, or a 97+ Audi A4 quattro 5sp. BTW, I've never bought a "new" car.

Justin's list

1. Got an '87 Ford Escort Pony in 1991 (Pony stands for "bottom of the frickin' line"). Parents gave it to me in 11th grade, 4 speed manual, 1.9L 4-banger. Died in the summer heat in '97, so I left that POS & hunted down my...

2. '91 RX-7 TurboII. MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm, turbo boost......
I still miss that car. After blowing that rotary engine to hell with detonation, I sold it in summer '99 to buy my brand new...

3. '99 Max SE. I really like this car, even if it is front drive and has no boost (maybe after the warranty runs out I'll go with the supercharger). Anyway, my next car *will* be a sports car, I'm too addicted to speed not to get something small, fast, and, just... AAARRRGH!!! I want that RX-7 back!!!!

Did I mention that rex frickin' *SCREAMED*?!?!?!?!

DUDE!!! Don't rub it in!

Seriously, it hurts a lot more now than it did when I sold it after blowing the engine. I was pretty pissed off, so I went out looking for a very new, very reliable car with style. Hence, the Max. Now I just wanna have both, looks like you got that worked out.

sigh...

In my 9 months of driving.... :O)....

I learned to drive in a 97 Dodge Neon, the thing was pretty quick for an auto (at least at that time I thought it was, driving in the slowass lane with the "student driver" sticker )

-1st- 1987 Mercury Sable, this was before the maxima, i just got a permit and a license, and my dad let me drive the old brown/**** colored rusted paint beast. We still got it with 125k miles, brakes are almost non-existant, engine is pretty weak, looks like hell, I was happy with it at the time, because of the excitement of being able to drive. its still moving on its last days.
-2nd- 1993 Nissan Maxima auto SE, love this baby, tranny died at 86k, got the car just 2 months earlier with 84k!!!! 1,200$/7k miles later, the tranny feels like **** again. If not that, I love this car. Quick, handles great, comfy, looks good.
-Future 3rd- 1995+ 5spd SE. Yes I am 18 and I live in NYC but automatic transmissions seriousely suck, I rather go crazy sitting in traffic then go crazy driving a ****ed up auto.

My list...

learned on a '94 Honda Accord DX auto. Nice car, enough power to live with, good handling.
'83 Jeep CJ-7 4-spd manual. This baby was too much fun...afterall, it is a Jeep. 4.3 i-6 had oodles of torque. A real SUV: no tach, no radio, no A/C, crappy heater, and after a rain the footwell would be full with water. Regardless, I still loved it and miss it. Sold it to my neighbor.
Drove my dad's leased '96 Maxima GXE auto. What can I say? My love for the Max began with my friend's '89 GXE. Compared to my friend's '89, this '96 had an engine that revved like no other.
'91 GXE...nice college car. People think I'm spoiled for having it...the same people who drive brand-new Cherokees and Xterras. Should I let them in on it? The car's 9 years old!!! I still can't figure why guys and gals love my car? The "ghetto" muffler? The color? Beats my dad's old VQ in the accessories department with the BOSE, moonroof, and power seats. And by now I'm sure it's just as quick and better handling.

I've been driving for 7 years now >>

Went through high school and two years of college with no car.

Sophomore year, I bought a 1991 T-bird from my uncle...3.8L V6...smooth and torquey, but missing on the high end. Sold it after one year, after getting spanked by a Civic.

The next ride was a 1989 Mustang GT...no mods...quick...enough to beat that Civic...hehehe...too many problems...required too much maintenance and new parts...went on a trip to Boston...came back to find out that my Dad had sold it on me...didn't shed any tears...do miss it sometimes though.

After graduation...I purchased the 1997 Maxima GXE...it's nice...have put 83K miles on it...but I plan on moving on eventually...preferably something German.
