This post is going to be semi-long.
Would the performance gains i get from a cat back system outweigh the drawback of having a lot of noise ? Should i shell out the 600 dollars greddy wants or buy a courtesy nissan b pipe and have meineke weld a flowmaster muffler on it and mount it on my car? As you can tell im very confused. I dont want my maxima to sound ricey. any advice is great.

One thing is for sure...no matter which of those coices you take (noise not withstanding) you'll only get arbout 2-3 HP from it.

Something to consider.

Dont mess with the cat back right now. Spend that $$ on a Y-pipe. The $/HP ratio is soo much better.

Let's be generous:

Cat Back
$400 / 5 HP = $80 per HP

Y- pipe
$300 / 15 HP = $20 per HP
