The automatic climate control is a sophisticated computer-controlled device. It relies on signals from four sensors.
- The in-vehicle sensor, attached to the A/C control finisher.
- The ambient sensor, attached to the radiator core support.
- The sunload sensor, located on the right defroster grille.
- The intake sensor, located on the cooling unit housing.

Ambient Button

If your looking at messing with this button much as far as hooking it up etc. you should do a search for the forum named something like " My week didnt go to waste" under this forum 4th gen. There were people that were playing around with it alot that could help you probably.

I have the Automatic Climate Control and the Ambient Temp button. Every now and then the Ambient temp will display a temperature that is totally out of wack. I was thinking that something may be on the sensor causing my strange readings. I'll look on the radiator support and see if I come up with anything.

This usually happens on really hot days, it actually reads much lower then it really is outside. Usually the readings are off lunch time, here in NJ it's been like 100 deg. each day and my temp reads 80. But by the tiem I leave work the thing reads correct temps. Like the 100 or so it really is outside. So I'm thinking something might be on the sensor which holds due(moisture) thus keeping it cooler then it really is.
Am I making any sense here?

Thanks guys.

njmaxseltd,

I am experiencing the same exact thing with my 5th Gen, except my readings drop to 16, or 30, or 44, or 22, etc, even though it is 80+ degrees outside. The AC shuts down when this happens because I guess it thinks it's freezing outside.

PM me and I can provide more details and what I have found.

I think they added the button in 99. The 98 Climate Control unit has the space for button and the circuit also has the button. The car has the sensor too but the actual button is not there !! So people have been adding that button by cutting the plastic that sits over the actual button

Very, very odd. Kind of interesting trivia though.
