It depends..

With 300w? A little. With 1000w? Disgustingly so.

With a spray-can of sound deadener in the holes in the trunk lid, and the subs fireing backwards (ie, towards the back license plate), 300-500w can be dealt with pretty easily. Once you cross 500 watts, it's gonna rattle regardless of what you do to it (unless you run a bandpass with it ported into the car but that's a different story)..

Here's my story

about subs and rattles and Maxes. I have two 10 inch subs getting 150 watts each facing the rear of my trunk. This initially made the whole car rattle like it was about to fall apart. I took my rear seatback off and covered that whole body panel with damping material. I then found the contact spots on the rear deck and put foam in between them. Then I removed my third brake light and wedged some fabric under it so it was securely fastened. I put foam between all the dash pieces (internal and external), under the rearview mirror mounting plate, around the maplight fixture, around the dome light fixture around the edges and contact points of all four door panels, under the very front edge of the headliner, on the back of my license plate, along the little edge of my radar detector that touches the glass, and probably about 30 other places I cant remember right now. I have only one major rattle left. The mechanical linkage from the keyway on the right to the actual latch of the trunk in the center rattles like a bastard and I have yet to find a way to stop it. Oh yeah also put damping sheets on all the inner door panels. I'm still in the process of hunting down the little rattles as I can find them. Geez...

fixed my problem

i have one 12 inch Eclipse Aluminum DVC sub 600 watts RMS!!!. It pounds like crazy and makes my trunk flex like its made of tin I went to Home Depot and filled most of the space on the trunk with that Expand Foam stuff (Great Stuff) its called. It worked great except for the lacth piece of the trunk. That thing still rattles. I also dynamated the floor of the whole trunk to get rid of unwanted resonances and road noise. I reccomend the dynamat and foam stuff. Thats all i needed to dampen, no other rattles to report to ya. i plan on dynamating my rear deck lid soon too.

I got 1000 watts RMS going to 2 15" Kicker XPL woofers in a 4.0 cubic foot box. I heard the 97-99 maximas have much more solid trunks then the 95-96. My trunk really doesnt rattle that badly. I had to damp the license tag, but if I drop the rear seat pass through the trunk really doesnt rattle that badly at all.

I have a stupid rattle in my spoiler. . . Done everything possible to get rid of it and it is still there. . . I only have a 12 with 200W RMS, the sub is facing the rear. Anyone else have this problem? I have sound deadening material between the 3rd light and the spoiler, but it seems to still be making noise

I have 1100 watts going to 2 Audiobahn AW1200s in a 1.7 ft^3 per chamber sealed box, its pretty huge. I used to get super nasty rattling but i noticed that most of the rattling was coming from the trunk lock, the license plate and the spare tire well. I tightened the spare tire which amazingly made a big difference, then i tightened up the trunk lock which made a little difference and then i put some rubber strips behind my license plate to tighten that up.

I still had some rattle so i dynamatted the entire trunk and that did a little but wasnt worth the price at all.

Guess im stuck with it,... my rearview mirror cant sit still for a second and my steering wheel pulsates. Oh well.

Anyone have any ideas on how to keep my rearview mirror still?

I have a 96 Max.
