I just had all my brakes pads(front and rear) replaced and my front rotors replaced as well(aftermarket). My rear rotors are still stock but they have been resurfaced a couple of times... I am still getting some squealing from the rear brakes and I am hearing some loud roaring noise from the rear. Do you think I should get new rear rotors? Will this solve the problem?

I have a 97 gxe with about 60k mi..

Thanks...

A loud roaring noise is a frightening symptom. Do you hear that sound all the time or only when braking?

You (or a professional) should examine the rear brakes closely to determine the origin of the loud roaring sound. I don't want to tell you that new rotors will solve the problem without knowing what the problem is.

I hear that noise when I am speeding up ... can it be the rotors or a worn wheel bearing?

A loud roaring sound could come from ...
- a damaged wheel bearing
- a pebble caught in the brake mechanism where it rubs against the rotor
- a sheet metal splash guard which has been accidentally bent so it rubs against the rotor

While we are on the subject of rotors...

I purchased some aftermarket rotors with about 2,000 miles on them, I took them to get turned but the only question I have is on one of the front rotors, there is a groove on the back of the rotor (the side that faces the body of the car) that goes all the way around the rotor. The groove is about 1mm deep and about a 1.5 cm down from the edge of the rotor. They auto shop I took the rotors told me that I would still be alright with the groove, it's the cracks and fractures that pose problems.

Is there any truth to this? I just want to make sure before I put them on.

Thanks
