I recently purchased Stillen Slotted rotors and Metal Master pads...and I am NOT impressed AT ALL with the pads, you have to heat them up to get them to work well, but then soon after that they become too hot and start to fade BADLY.
I've heard nothing but good stuff about Porterfield Pads I just don't know where to buy them.
help please!

uhh.. it's in the sticky. Buying directly from them is the best way so long as you call them and mention "Maxima group" prices.

I tried emailing those yahoos and they didn't even reply to my email. I'll probably phone them tomorrow to place an order. I heard that if you mention that you're a member of the maxima club they will give you a killer deal.

Sorry to tell you, but a characteristic of these high performance pads is that they need to be warmed up a bit to perform optimally. I have the porterfields, and in the morning, I need to make a couple hard stops before they grab well. So, I'm not sure if going to Porterfields will necessarily improve your situation.

Eric, did you have to drill into your AP430's in order to install the return spring?

That is what you will need to do if you want to install the OEM return springs (Porterfields do not have the holes). I chose to leave them off and have not had any problems with squeeling and such. I did use CRC Brake Quiet goop. As tight as the pads fit in there, I can't see how the springs would do very much... but I guess they were there for a reason.

You don't need the return springs. The new OEM replacement pads don't even have the holes for the springs anymore, so it is clear that while it is nice to have, the springs are not necessary for proper brake function.

thanks for the replies guys.....I was in a rush today...and didn't have time to look through the stickies. I think the porterfields will work better....my current ones fade BAD when they heat up (after 3 or 4 hard stops from 40-50)

I am forced to ask why you literally could not look through the sticky, yet had time to post? I'm pretty sure it would have taken the same amount of time. But I digress....

My bet is you bought these pads from Stillen, is that correct? If it is, Stillen has been known to not use true Axxis Metal Master pads, but rather knock-offs or even the "Deluxe Plus" organic pads, which will fade as you describe when they heat up.

The Axxis Metal Masters on both of my Maximas do not exhibit this behavior on standard (blank) Brembo rotors, nor did they exhibit this behavior when I used Stillen cross-drilled rotors.

Bill,

I was already on a "form to post" page before I even thought about the stickies...and that's my fault, but that page alone takes like 2-3 minutes to load during the day....and I didn't have time to go back to the 4th gen forum...wait for that to load, then click on the stickies, and wait for them to load. oh well....thanks for the help, and I didn't buy the pads from Stillen....I bought them from GR racing.
