Stock to 17's
will switching the stock wheels and tired on a 96 max to a set of 17's and low profile tires make the ride really rough
ive heard that with a setup like that youll fell every thing in the road horribly making it an unsmooth ride
are the only pros of getting those looks and handling

I don't think so. I've got a 96 SE and I upgraded to 17's. Just with the 17's there was hardly a difference. Then when I switched my springs and struts, the car actually rode better. Your struts may be shot since you have a 96. Upgrade everything and you'll probably have a better ride. My ride is firm but the control has really improved. I've got 45 series tires/chrome 17's/H&R springs and KYB GR-2 struts...
gotta remember though, a lot of the "ride quality" has to do with the place you live in. Luckily here, was it 100+ miles? of freeway and local streets are being repaved. 1.5 miles per night per single lane, they say it'll be complete 2002 next summer.
