I was just wondering if anyone who has the automatic climate control thinks its worth it. Has anyone had any problems with it? If it really is better then the standard controls is it possible to upgrade from the standard to the automatic climate control easily? I saw a unit on a auction for $120. Is that a reasonable price???. thanks for your input.

auto control

The auto control looks nicer but sometimes it is a pain in the butt to use. I have them for my 4th generation Max. It looks nicer--but stick with the manual controls--I think they work better without having the computer put on hot air and stuff liek that...i sometimes hate using it save your money!!

I love it!

you just have to figure out how it works...
I just found out how to use it without running the actuall blower...you can use outside air and have it cool down or heat up the interior, kinda like having your window open, and the vent will close or open accordingly
it is neat
all i did was press the vent direction, and when it come up, no fan was blowing, and I set the temp to 85, it opens the duct from the engine and channel that to the interior, when I set the temp to 65, it moves the duct to something else cause I feel cool air coming and this is with blower off all the time!
neat!~

PS: yeah..I just figure that out....

IMHO--Automatic climate control is the best thing since the advent of power windows and remote controls for the TV. I didn't think I wanted it at first (something else to go wrong). I am glad my 99 SE-L was equipped with it.

Sorry, don't have any cost info or retrofit info.

I saw it on auction too and I call courtesy nissan and they claimed that you can't upgrade from the manual AC to auto climate control. Or that if you did it would be kinda hard...I don't know though...they might be wrong? I don't know why it would be so hard.

Definitely worth it. I've had both and it seems like you have to constantly fiddle with the manual controls (adjust temperature, where do I want output to go, how much fan speed...) -- what a pain.

I think the retro would be quite a bear because you have to have the sensors and wiring (and motors) to control everything installed along with it. Those things won't be there for the manual system and you'd probably end up installing a whole bunch of extra stuff to get it to work. ???

I have Semi-auto temp control in My TBird...
u have to pick the vents it comes out of in mine... but the rest is auto...
if u override the fan and put it on one speed... the temp acts like the warm/cold slider...
60 is cold 90 is hot... and inbetween is just that
one little thing i never noticed til it was summer and I wore shorts in my car which I'll miss with my max...
was theres a little vent, bout 4" by 2" below the steering wheel about knee level... if u have A/C on (vents only) it had cold air coming out of that little vent too so it cooled ya off down near the floor too that was neat
oh well

It's great for me, because I don't always forget to mess with HVAC controls. It just keeps me comfortable without any intervention. I also like how it waits for the car to warm up before it starts trying to run the heater. It will be even better when I get remote start.

I love it. It shifts the vents and the speed of the fan to keep a constant temp in the cabin. I'm spoiled...gotta have the automatic...

I too, heard that you couldn't upgrade to it though. Might be wrong, call nissan...

odd finding

First off the auto climate is definatly worth it, at first it was a pain, but I saw a maxima without the auto climate and it just made the car look old, the extra digital display really does make the car look a lot better and if you don't like it your girlfriend will love it, one more thing for them to play with... The only lame feature of it is there is a button called auto and econ, I assume econ stands for economical, the only problem is it doesnt really work that well, it works but all it seems to do is if you have it on 85 it takes air from the inside of the hood that your car heated up and if you have it down to 65 it takes air just whatever is outside. So econ works when its on the heated temperatures but not really for cold temperatures because if its 90 outside and your have it set to econ on the inside to 65, the air will be more around 90 than 65.

This is my odd finding. The car seems to always try to circulate air inside so even when you have climate control off, there will still be air coming out from the vents, but not the vents that go to your face, the ones that go to your feet. For instance this is what happened to me today, last night it was cold so i had the temp to 80 and then after a couple minutes I turned the climate control completely off because I was almost home and didn't care for it. So this morning I was driving and I was trying to see if my car could accelerate better at high speeds if I didn't floor it, because a couple weeks ago I had it floored from 50-120 and once it got to 120 it took forever to get to 125. So today I got it to 120 and then floored it and saw same results as a couple weeks ago, so I let off the accelerator and sure enough the car accelerated faster than having it floored. Anyways so I got it to 128, and I noticed my car was blazing hot, it seems that the air vents although off kept pushing air through and I don't know if it pushed the air through faster because I was going so fast, or if that the air it automatically drags in was just super hot because I was going so fast. I bet if the last temp I woulda had my climate control on was 65 and even if it would have been off, my car would have probably been freezing cold rather than blazing hot.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about??
