RE: Speakers...

Do you have the Bose system or not? The non-Bose system has 6.5" holes cut in the doors and rear rack. Just trying to help.

I have heard that putting non bose speakers in with the BOSE system sometimes causes problems? Any one heard of this?

Each speaker in the Bose system has their own separate amp attached to them. If you replace one of them, you will have no sound coming from that speaker(s) unless you add an amp. The head unit supplies no power by itself. Someone correct me if I am wrong about this. I don't know anything about the non-Bose systems.

If your fortunate enough to find a match with the same wattage, and ohms, then it would be fine to do the swap, and still use the bose amp.

Your correct to the dime, when my amps in the back burnt the speakers did play, and they switched there power to another speaker, until I was fortunate to get a couple from my "Supplier"

Yes, I had a friend who wanted to sell me his Bose system. I contacted Bose about the swap and they said that each system has its own circuitry and it was unadvisable to do it. Non-bose systems, like mine, come with 6'5in 15watt Panasonic speakers.

Actually

They are 6.75" or 6.5S. They are oversized and can be a hassle to find a good set for a low price. I replaced my rear speakers with the Infinity Kappas and my front components with Rockford Fosgate Fanatic Q's. They sound really good...enough mid-range to fake a sub. Actually it's the Fosgates that create a lot of the lows, the Kappas generate a perfect mid-range.

I replaced my Bose system speakers in my '98 SE with Boston Acoustics. I think 5.5" in the front and 6.5" in the back. If you are going to change the speakers I would suggest changing everything...the headunit and all...it might all work together better that way. Good luck!
