I ahve a problem when I start my 95 Max especially wehn it has been sitiing for hours it is hard to start when it does though sometimes it makes this loud SCREEACHing sound i rev through it and it disapates. It sounds like when my mother had a bad belt on her old car and all we needed to do wsa lubricate it. Any help with this will be apreciated as I am taking it in for a tune up on wed. BTW I do know that Maximas have a Timing Chain not a belt so no need to explain that.

True, you do have a timing chain, and some people have said that there was a TSB on some of the 95's not having proper tensioning in them but I would suspect that your noise is more than likely the starter. Has yours ever been replaced? The starters are notorious for failing. My car occasionally makes a 'dry' grinding noise that is the starter being to slow to dis-engage from the flywheel so once the engine starts up the starter then gets spun at the higher rpm for a few seconds. Try Daniel B's rubber hose trick. Get a 3 or 4 foot section of small diameter rubber hose and place one end in your ear and move the other one around inside your engine compartment to try to locate the noise. Obviously don't damage your ear with a really loud noise but this might help you isolate the noise. GOOD LUCK.

The most likely source of a shriek heard on startup is an accessory drive belt. Please check your belts for condition and tension. You may be in need of replacement belts. For further information, see ...
- the Chilton repair manual, page 1-19.
- the Haynes repair manual, page 1-15.

Just tighten your belt and inspect it to see if there is any visible wear, if there is, replace it. Tightening the belt takes about 5 minutes & it's fun .
