Hi, I was just wondering what I could to do the jolt feeling I receive when I shift the car from P->R, from R->P, from D->N, and from N->D.

It's not too serious, I've gotten used to it, but is there any solution to this?

Thanks

I can understand a shock or jolt when shifting from a non-moving gear (Park or Neutral) to a moving gear (Drive or Reverse). I can't understand a shock when shifting into Neutral, but that is one of the symptoms you report.

The factory service manual has a Symptom Chart for automatic transmissions. There is an entry for "Sharp shock in shifting from N to D position." The check items are, in this order ...
1) Engine idling speed
2) Throttle position sensor (adjustment)
3) Line pressure
4) ATF temperature sensor
5) Engine speed signal
6) Line pressure solenoid valve
7) Control Valve assembly
8) Accumulator N-D
9) Forward clutch

The book doesn't mention it but I think a defect in the Torque Converter lockup mechanism could also cause this symptom.

Thanks for your help with the FSM, Daniel. I wish I had access to one of those.

You can have access to a factory service manual.

1) Some dealers will permit you to look at their FSM. Some even will give you copies of a few pages, at no charge.

2) Buy one. It's expensive, but anyone who can pay for the long list of mods on your car can also pay for a FSM. See the Sticky Max FAQs (READ BEFORE POSTING) for information about ordering from Dyment. Perhaps you can find a used FSM on the secondary market.

This fellow deals in used factory service manuals.

This is another good source of used factory service manuals:
****son Street Bookshop
325 West ****son
Fayetteville, AR 72701
dsbooks@ipa.net
I bought one from ****son and recommend them.
The book was fairly priced, in good condition, and shipped promptly.

These folks have a good on-line catalog.

Keep an eye on the eBay auction site. They often have manuals for sale.

In the search field, enter: maxima manual -owner

In fact, there is a '96 FSM offered on eBay right now. Go to http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=594787808
