****LED gauge lights ARE IN!!!!!!! :D****

I finally got to install my new LED light bulbs for my gauges(speedo/tac/fuel/temp) Let me just say its a night and day difference between the blue painted bulbs, hyper white bulbs and the colored bulb covers. They illuminate a very deep blue and are very bright. They resemble the gauge lights in the new VW's.
I even changed out my shift light to blue LED and i also make the ignition light to blue as well(using a blue bulb cover). The cost for the bulbs is $20 a pair. I will find out where online my shop gets them from. Ill post pics once i have JOESMAX take a few shots with his digital camera.

I NEED to see these! What type of LED bulb is it? Was it just plug and play? Or was there soldering involved? I've been wanting to do this for the longest time. The ring around my volume **** is a very blue and I wanted to match it. Is it the same type of bulb that would be used in the Climate Control area as well?

The bulbs are plug and play. They literally look just like an ordinary 194 push bulb, except for the fact they have a colored LED inside rather a filiment. Its the same bulbs you use in your bumper lense next to the blinker(small push bulb). They are availible in red, hyper white, blue, green and yellow(i think?) but as for the climate controls the bulb size is totally different. Its an extremely involved process to even expose the climate control bulbs, let alone change them. Im pretty sure they will match up to the button you have. Just find someone you know with a new VW and check out the gauge lights in there, very deep blue look, not light at all.

Alright.... Ant ... too bad you didn't go to my school a semester earlier ... now you're the best looking Max there now that I'm not there.
Btw, there are 5 in the gauge cluster IIRC.
Also, I found 194 LEDs here ($5.95 each):
LED 194 Amber:

LED 194 Red:

Also found these two links:

i would like to see instructions on how to take apart the temp control center. i was in there the other day and could not figure out how to get the PCB's out. It looks like there are two of them but the one further in is hung up on the dial that controls fan speed. There are a couple of screws and tabs but i was afraid to pull to hard before asking someone about it. If anyone has a step by step of the disassembly, please let me know (I have all my other lights done except theses and they are starting to irritate me). Also, if anyone wants the exact bulbs to fit in the door handles, check the groupdeals, I have found a distributer that will sell me the T-3mm blue LEDs for $1.50 as opposed to radioshack's $3 for oversized purply bulbs. Thanks

Hey ny96Maxse if you can let me know where you got the leds at it would be greatly appreciated. I put blue leds in my window switches, and the cc, hazard, defroster, and dimmer switches. They all look great. All that I have left to do is the door lights, and the guage cluster. So this would be great, I have stayed away from the bulbs because I know from past experience that they fade, and don't put out a good blue. The leds look great.

Looks blue in the picture, but it's acutally more on the purple side. 194 wedge LEDs.
I actually wanted to undo my gauges and put these on.

I dont know if the gauges are different or anything, but if you wouldnt mind giving a nice explination where the bulbs are.. how easy it was to replace em.. maybe take some pics with stuff apart so we can see exactly where we are going...??? thanks

The bulbs are behind the gauges. They are easy to replace on the 95-96 Maxes. The bulbs on the 95/96 are #194s. On the 97+, the bulbs are not #194s (IIRC).
