plug and play

anyone know whats the difference between plug and play and the kit that involves splicing in the wires? is there any difference in light intensity or just an ease of installation?

plug and play kits take about 20mins to inst. with no modifications. also, bulbs are direct fit. most ppl don't like to chop the cars up, this makes it easy to inst. and looks nicer.

how is plug and play possible?? I thought that the standard 12V power source for halogen lights was incompatible with the HID light source. Shouldn't true HIDs require something to convert the 12V source to the HID system...i've read the HID systems run approx 25000V instead of 12V. if this is true, the halogen wiring would be insufficient and would not exactly be 'plug-n-play'.

12 volts from your car to the ballast, then from the ballast to the hid bulbs which are 35 watts. plug & play means that the bulb is the correct bulb for your car with no major installation needed.

nice review, but adding some pics would make it better! preferrably before and after or a side by side comparison between the Osram HID and any standard halogen (piaa, stock, etc.)

Re: Re: Re: plug and play

I'm working on the image uploading thing.

But from my own personal experience, any true HID conversion kit blows away a standard halogen.

Here are some pics from some 5th gens. The one in the middle has an HID kit. (Not the Osram kit, another HID kit)

The other two have standard halogen. One is running PIAAs and I forget what the other one is running. (Like it really matters. )

The one in the middle is obviously brighter. But look at the ground. The HIDs shine further and it has no "dark spot" in the middle like the other two.

A 3/4 view

Yet another 3/4 view

And even digital pictures don't do the HIDs justice. You have to see them in person to believe and then you'll be bleeding your wallet dry to get some.
