About 3 hours ago I raced a GT eclipse. We started at a stop light that had the cross walk at an angle like \ and he was in the left lane, I was in the right. We were not nose to nose, he had a slight advantage(about 2-3 feet). The light goes green...I hit 30 mph, he is 3/4 car length behind me...we hit 60, he is 3 car lengths behind me...we hit 80 mph, he is 4 1/2 car lenghts back. We pulled over and talked a little. He has 17" rims and blamed some of his slow acceleration on that. To that I replied that my car weighs more. He was an automatic like me and was very impressed with the car. As we were talking a guy with an early 90's RX7 overhears us talking about racing and challenges me. He wouldnt tell me anything about his car, but he had dual exhaust so Im guessing turbo? He wanted to do a rolling start because he felt like it would be a waste of time to race me from a stop since the Max weighs more. We get onto the highway and start at 30 mph. He gets the drop on me as we counted from 3 to 1 because he was a stick and my d*mn auto didnt downshift instantly like he did. He had me until about 45 mph where I passed him...at 70 mph he was 3 car lengths back. We pulled over and he wanted to race from a stop. We go back to the stoplight from earlier and start even this time. He had me until about 30 mph...then it was bye bye RX7, at 60 mph he was 3 1/2-4 car lengths back and turned off the street. When will people learn that the Maxima is not to be messed with?

Kirk

P.S. Sorry it was such a long post.
Man , all I have to say is that the dude in the rx7 didn't know how to drive.I own an 86 N/A with some very minor modifications and I can BLOW a maxima off the line.I own a maxima myself,so I am fully aware of what it can do.The only place that I would even give the Max the thumbs up on beating my rex is highway speed, passing gear. You need to quit smoking crack!

Whatever bruh, it happened. Maybe he didnt know how to drive, maybe he missed a shift, maybe he lost the ***** to race, maybe he just doesnt know how, maybe his engine was loosing compression, maybe he had an exhaust leak, maybe he missed the gas......get my point? It happened, he lost, twice, and if you dont believe me, thats up to you.....but remember this, it did happen.

Yes I know this thread is old, but I easily beat a late 80's NA RX7 at Highway speeds a couple months back, like from 70-120. . . It was no contest whatsoever, and yes he was trying.

Hey, bro. I found some stats on NA RX-7's at this site. Check out the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times at the bottom. I know the car shown is a 1989 but it is also NA. I don't know what differences there are between your 86 and this 89, besides your mods. And I know your mods make a difference; how much difference I don't know. The point is...if the RX-7 Kirk raced was stock or close to it, then it is very possible the RX-7 could have been beaten like he said based on these numbers on the site. Just to enlighten me, what are considered "minor mods" done to your RX-7?

http://www.supercars.net/cars/1989@$Mazda@$RX-7%20GTUs.html

You'll have to copy and paste this link since clicking on it will not take you to the page.

That site says the 1/4 is a 16.7...what altitude is that at? My max STOCK ran a 17.4 at 5000+ feet. Looks like someone got sad about my beating one of his favorite cars and cant realize that it really isnt fast unless it has a turbo

Kirk

P.S. Thanks for the backing

I suppose I can come out of retirement to comment on here again.

If anyone thinks that their maxipad is fast - race a motorcycle. Expecially you mzmtg - what does your tampon run in the 1/4 anyway? Or do you even still have one?

yeah man, the other day, i was rollin' on the interstate, and a hayabusa rolled up next to me. i looked over and he was looking at me like he wanted to go. so, i dropped the automagic down a couple gears and dropped it on him. my max is sooo fast with my 800 shot - i shot flames out the tailpipe, just like on fast and furious! it was so cool. so we hit like 185 or something, i can't really tell because we were going so fast it was making my eyes blurry, so i couldn't see the speedometer that well. but i looked back, and i had about 3 to 4 lengths on the busa. man, those bikes are fast! but not fast enough for my max with an 800 shot
