Rear suspension upgrading
#1
I'm thinking along the lines of if there is anything we could do to upgrade the miserable rear suspension. I already got the Addco RSB but I hate the beam axle minivan suspension. It really blows cause around my area theres plenty of twisty turnies that include plenty of bumps. I'm sick of my car skipping all over the place and the rear end acting queer all over bumps. Even Consumer Reports in their review of a 98 GXE says over bumpy roads the car produces rubbery side to side kicks. One thing that I feel is to blame is the minivan rear suspension. My 90 Camry and my mom's 98 Camry feel MUCH more secure going over the same bumpy roads and thats even _more_ of a family sedan, but at least its got independent rear suspension... anyway enough of my yackin. I hear that the 5th generation suspension something was moved somewhere to make it better. I wonder if it could be a bolt on replacement, but I"m sure the ancient beam technology will need welding and other fabrication.
Better yet, any ideas on how to make the rear suspension independent? Too bad the coilovers available to us don't change this. (and before anybody goes off and says buy a new car, believe me, I've gone that route already)

Yes, for the 5th gen, the Scott Russell link was moved from either front to back or back to front, I forget which. This was mainly a packaging issue. It would require some serious modification of the unit body to perform this on a 4th gen. The best thing you can do is go buy a new Altima.
