Okay, I used to own a 1991 GXE Auto and I sold it after I had the tranny rebuilt at 108,000 miles. What can I do to protect the tranny in my new GXE? I really hate auto's because of the fact that they don't usually last as long as manual tranny's (This is the excuse I used on my wife to get her to agree to the manual tranny in my SE). I just want to do everything I can to ensure reliable performance. What ATF is recommened? I heard that the factory recommended fluid change intervals are incorrect. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

atf fluid

I noticed a lot of maxima.org members recommending Redline's D4 ATF, I've changed mine at 15 k ,30 k intervals by 15k drain and refill 30 k manual flush. Try searching for valvebody upgrade it makes the auto tranny stronger.

To protect the automagic Max trans do the following 3 things:

1) Run with synthetic or a synthetic blend ATF.
2) Change the ATF every 25 - 30K.
3) Don't beat the $hit out of it.

It should last you a long long time.

Go to www.mobiletek.net. Don's VB mod is great for sportier shifts and is supposed to extend the life of the tranny by reducing slippage.
