air cone filter vs air intake
#1
Hi all,
I'm a little unsure what is the difference between the air cone filter and a air intake system.
I know that the air cone filter looks like a cone-like shaped cylinder that you place instead of the stock air filter under the hood on the driver's side.
What is the difference between these two things, which is better, how much hp does each item increase, and how/where does the air intake system connect to the car?

they say you get like 5+ HP out of a cone filter. I doubt many people were that intrigued with just a filter exchange to do a before and after dyno...but I think Stillen claims 5-7 with a K&N style cone filter.. I think JTW claims about the same. I could tell a differenc, mostly in sound. But there is a difference in performance in my opinion.

I was wondering...with a setup like that, where there is most likely no attachment spot for the air temperature sensor, what do you do with it? drill holes or zip tie it somewhere?

Hey, I saw the same thing. I think it actually said JWI intake, and it didn't look like a JWT, but more like a generic cone with MAF adaptor.

I am thinking abt buying it if seller will allow me to pick up because he has bad feedback.

Guys you got off the subject, i need to know what the difference if any between an air cone filter and a air intake system.
Exactly what is the air intake system and where does it go under the hood, same place as old filter or no?
thanks

Your cone filter is an intake... your stock intake actually takes place near your grill... it looks like a black scoop with some foam around it... near your hood locking mechanism. If you replace that, you'll take that box out and you'll just have the cone filter intake in its place. you benefit from this because you have a larger surface area for air to pass into your engine, and you reduce the resistance and distance that the air has to travel to the engine... example... drinking through a swizzle straw (used for stirring coffee) and a short fat straw. You can drink more faster through the short fat one... less resistance and distatnce to where you want it to go...

your missing the question... he wants to know if there is any difference between buying a K&N cone filter from lets say pepboys VS buying a JWT or STILLEN "INTAKE" and i would also like to know the answer too. Don't the stillen and JWT intakes come with mounting bracktes while the K&N you buy at pepboys doesn't?

yea, that sounds more like what I'm trying to find out, and also is a CAI same as a JWT/STILLEN "INTAKE"?
thanks.

I already posted that Stillen/K&N(same filter)/JTW all report the same ratings for increased flow and power. CAI, some people don't believe in the CAI for the Maxima. The CAI in the maxima places the the filter behind the bumper, where there isn't real good airflow, but the air is cooler than in the engine compartment. There is also a Weapon R intake to take a look at too. I have a K&N, and I had to drill into the adapter to fit mine. Be sure to buy a bracket(if one doesn't come eith it) to keep the filter from rubbing and vibrating on your wheel well.

Because I'm planning to install a 3" generic air cone filter with some Mods but a considerably lower price. So will there be a big difference between a K&N and the 3" im going to install, meaning is it worth getting the K&N instead but putting in more money?
thanks
