I have a '98 SE 5 speed that has never had a keyless remote..
This may be stupid, but what will it take to add keyless remote capability to my car? A friend said the components needed are in the car and all I need to do is get the remote and program it..
What is the case?
Thanks,
John M

No sure if needed components are already in the car, but I remember seeing some Maxs with no security LED next to the power mirror switch, just a blank insert.

Does anyone have the keyless entry that just locks and unlocks the doors, but doesn't open the trunk or wind the windows and not have a security system?Originally posted by jiaxima96

or is my trunk, window buttons meant to work but dont?
If you have a Nissan remote, then it probably works fine. To open the trunk and roll the windows, you have to HOLD DOWN the button for a few seconds to invoke the command. So, to wind down your windows, hold down the un-lock button, for the trunk, hold down the trunk release button.

Go here to Steve Cutchen's MaxFAQ;
http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max...nce.htm#Remote
Try the setting mode part. If your hazard lights blink twice, then welcome to the keyless remote club!

The manual refers to the keyless remote feature as the Multi-Remote Control System. It uses a Multi-Remote Control Relay. Look to see if your car has this relay. Originally posted by jnmunsey

1) Open the trunk. Remove the trunk compartment floor carpet and the fiberboard spare tire cover. These are removed with your hands; no tools are required.
2) Remove the cardboard trunk trim which surrounds the latch mechanism. The five plastic fasteners which secure it are quarter-turn latches and come loose easily when turned with a Phillips head screwdriver.
3) Look at the area of the trunk latch mechanism, made visible by removal of the the trim panel. Locate electrical connector T5. This is a brown plastic connector with 6 terminal positions. If your Maxima does not have the keyless entry feature you will find connector T5 taped up so it does not rattle, but with no relay plugged into it.
4) Reinstall all the trim you removed.
This whole operation should take three minutes.
The results of this test tell if your Maxima has the electronic hardware to operate the Keyless Remote. If you find no relay, that does not mean you need only a relay. You would also need a Multi-remote Control Unit (LCU05) which is mounted behind the trim panel in the passenger's side of the trunk, near the power radio antenna motor.
I ordered my '97 SE without the S&C package (so I could lose the sunroof). That meant no factory security system and no keyless entry. So I added a Clifford alarm with remote start and problem solved. Alarm (better than OEM), remote keyless entry *and* the remote start to boot.
Just get an alarm (if it doesn't already have one)...

Okay, i did the reset code for the remote thing and the hazards didn't blink which i suspected because it hasn;'t got a security system, but, i did get the trunk button to work - I wasn't holding it down long enough. I also got the other button to go, the light button. I don't know if anyone else has this button, it turns the interior light on. but theres no button to wind the windows.Originally posted by Daniel B. Martin

So, your hazards didn't blink and the windows don't go down. Sounds like you have half of Nissan's remote system. Where's the other half?
Weird.
