I own a 97 SE with automatic.I want to install a K&N air filter.Does anyone know what the performance increase might be?How about fuel mileage? Is it a easy change over?Is it worth it?

If you are talking about a drop-in K&N, it doesnt really do much at all. Maybe .5-1 hp and just runs cleaner. It is good on your engine, but if you are looking for performance then you should look into a CAI or a mass flow intake.

It would work most optimal with an OSCAI system. Search about this on the search function.

Performance gain = 0, hp gain = 0. At the time that I got mine, in 1998, people were saying 2 hp. Anyway, at first I did not like to clean/reoil, but I got used to it. When my car reached 7000 original miles, all of a sudden I couldn't do better than 24 mpg highway. When I put a new K&N in, it instantly went back to around 30. Now the car has almost 53,000 miles and on two recent trips I banged home 30-31 mpg with the K&N. Say it's overkill, but I clean/reoil every 4k. I would not be able to afford a new factory filter that often. You pay $58 for the filter/cleaning kit, might as well put some elbow grease into keeping it clean.
