I just bought a 95 maxima, I don't know if it is GXE,GLE, OR SE. I saw on some other posts that the 95 was the fastest. why is that? I don't have a sunroof or a bose system so i am assuming it is a GXE. Is there a difference in enginespeed/HP between trim levels and years within the 4th generation. If anyone does know the HP and 0-6 info I'd certainly like to know. I used to have an 88 max and since i loved it so much i decided to buy a newer maxima. Maxima rules!

yes it is fastest, i feel it is faster than my 2001 maxima from 0-50 or 60, but from then on i feel my car pulls harder highway speeds than my 95

All the engines in all 4th gens are same. Some say the 95/96 has OBDI, but I dont know if that's true or not. The 95/96 is also slightly lighter because it's got less crash protection.

Your's is probably a GXE. People "claim" that the 95 was the fastest year of the 4th gen becuase of less emmission control. All 4th gen have the same VQ engine with the same HP and torque ratings of 190 and 205 respectively. I personally think it just depends on the car, not on the year. I have witnessed slow 95s and fast 99s. My buddy has a 99 SE-L auto with only an intake and a muffler, and he can hang with me better than any other auto max I've gone up agaist, and I've been against a 95 auto with intake and y-pipe. So I firmly believe it just depends on the car. If you have a manual, your 0-60 time should be high 6s and if you have an auto high 7s.

hmmm i thought the 95 maxima engines were made of a different type of metal than the 97+.. or was that the difference between 3rd gen and 4th gens? iron block and aluminum or something i cant recall... help me

All the 95-01 maximas use the All aluminum VQ engines. 94 and BEFORE used the iron block VE and VG.

thanks. a iron block would hold up against more engine stress correct? I.E. large amounts of PSI from blower/turbo

true, but they are also about twice as heavy....If your worried about the strength of the VQs aluminum block...just look at Don's 12 second max with an ALL aluminum block. Or all the boosted maxs out there....how many of them have had engine block problems.....non...I wouldn't be worried.

As you can see the 4th gens got slower and slower each year. Once you change the exaust they are all pretty much the same.

I have never seen a test on 96's or 99's, I suspect 96 was the same as 95.

I don't trust magazine times at all. Supposedly my max went 0-60 in 7.1 stock and my buddys 2K 5-speed went 6.7....and when we ran(both stock) we were DEAD even....and we are both equally good drivers...when we drive each other's cars at the track we post times that are within 1-5 one HUNDREDTHS of each other.

Even the 95SE 5-speed has been tested as slow as 7.4 secs to 60. It all depends on the car.
