Car almost dies after started
I have just recently noticed a problem with my 97 GLE with 50k on it. It sits outside all night and when I go to crank it in the morning I first noticed a squealing for a few seconds. Then it goes away. I figured that was a loose belt but have not had time to investigate it. The thing is I mainly hear it when I am going to school in the morning so I dont have time to mess with it. In the last week about every other morning I start the car and it cranks up but them immediately drops to very low RPM's and then bounces back and does fine. It doesn't die and has done this 3-4 times. Anyone every had this happen before? Thanks!

The same thing was happenning to my max so i took it in the dealer. They changed the whole starter assaembly or something like that. After that it worked perfectly for a couple of months, but now it's starting to do it again. i have to take it in again to get checked

Well I was planning on working on it over the weekend. I am going to put my stock airbox back on and see if it has any problems next week. I have no other problems except for when starting. This morning I did not notice the squealing but I am not sure if it is gone for good. I will post again after next week. Thanks for the help.

yea
my gf's old car does that too, it won't crank and then at the last second it catches and then the rpms drop like crazy and then shoot back up, the car shakes a bit and then it smoothes out. took it to a mechanic and they said it had somethin to do with the cold start motor.

When you say check it what do you mean? I know its plugged it and I don't get a check engine light. NisMoMAX01SE, that is sorta whats happening to me but mine starts immediately and the revs only drop for a second. I didn't have the problem this morning so I dont know whats going on.
