I just ordered a set of springs for my car, but today I realized that coilovers can get my car alot lower than any spring/strut combo. How much extra $$ would I be forking out for a good set of coilovers? Are there any bad points to them? Any info on them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

well......

I don't have any ideas on the price... however..

one positive
-Adjust ride height, can lower it up to 3+ inches I think.

one negative
-Very rough ride, probably worse then most springs and strut combos (if that's a bad thing for u)

The rough ride is attributed to the stiffness of the spring and how low most people set their coilovers. It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that they are coilover design rather than regular spring design.

Ground Control coilovers are about $400 for the max, Weapon*R I don't know the cost of, but they are crap, don't buy them. Cattman makes REAL coilovers for the Maxima, but I've heard some bad things about them.

hmm

So from the sounds of it they're not worth the money you pay, and also have the potential for more problems than basic spring/strut? Do you guys think I should stick to ordering my springs and struts? My morning commute to work is over an hour so I guess I should be a little concerned about ride comfort
Are coilovers a harsh ride even on their highest setting?

If you are not planning on racing (I'm talking about road racing and AutoX here, not drag racing), and don't need to raise your car for the winter, and don't care about slamming your car really really low then coilovers aren't for you. If you just want your car a little lower and don't want it stiff as hell, don't get them.

thats too bad that no one has perfected the coilover yet because i am in maine and would like to drop my car but there is no way i am going to drive with a lowered car in the winter. i found another possible kit on ebay that consists of adjustable eibachs but i assume it will run into the same problems as the rest...
