Here is how I understand the governor information on the Maximas. With the general forum down, I'll post here and on the 5th generation board.

3rd gens: no governors on any of them, SE or GXE
-personal experience

4th gens: no governors on SE or GLE, but the GXE is governed at 112, correct?
-neighbor at 135 in 97 GLE

5th gens: autos governed at 132 mph, but 5 speeds no governor and were rated with a top speed of 143 mph.
-Russ topping out at 132 in his 2000 SE auto.


If anyone could clarify this information or supplement it, I would appreciate it. I will be adding this to my FAQ's very soon. What will the status of the 2002 Maximas, which all will have 260 hp be? Will they be governed at all?

In no way do I plan to test the limits, but was just curious. Thanks

well my 93se 5sp has no gov. it has done the dash with 15's and 17's (indicated 145mph)

my 95se 5sp seems to not want to run faster than 130mph (w/17's) however i am changing my knock sensor today/tonight and will report any improvemnts later.

as for the 00 SE 5sp's: my alignment tech/buddy and i raced on I-291 in CT and i passed him @ 137-140 mph.

i am not trying to make these statement abslute fact, they are just my personal experiances.

I have a 1998 GLE and I topped at 120 with the RPMs at 5000.. i was on a flat road.. car just stopped accelerating and stayed there.. i want to get my ECU done, but i dont think i can.. i dont want stock ECU anymore.

 

so what are we talking about here? i have no clue over what any of you guys said... fill me in with the 411? thanx

 

wierd. Went 124 in 97 gxe with 2 ppl in the car and was able to go more.

 

I suspect your GLE topped out at 130 because you had your foot floored and the car was still in third. It wont shift into 4th until you let off for a second and then floor it again to keep accelerating. Or maybe your car is just embarrassed by your sig pic.... jeez i hope thats not close to what your car really looks like.

 

I got 97 GXE and couldn't seem to get pass 122. I do think maybe the car govern at some speed for some safety reason, but not at 122.

 

syc... try reading. GXE's are the only 4th gens with governors, and not even all GXEs have a governor, only the ones without the C&C package, because they came with crappy tires. I've heard governor ranges from 112-118... mine is right at 115 it seems, it drops me to about 108-110 or so before I can accelerate again.

I have a 98 I30t and ive taken mine to 135 but the govenor in my head made me stop. thats just way to freakin fast for the highway. If I could only get on a closed course or something....oh that was with the stock tires too. now that I got z rated tires maybe I can pull somemore...

 

i have 96 gxe with stock ecu and i shut down between 112mph and 118mph, usually closest to 112 but 1 time i think i touched 120mph. this is one of the worst points of my max i hate when i shut down when the car is capable of so much more . when i first got my max this shut down nearly got me in a real bad accident and when i say nearly that is a understatement . anyone know why nissan does this?
