HELP! What is wrong with my dash?
Hey guys,
I recently took apart the top part of my dash (where the clock and 2 center air vents are) because the two center air vents were broken. The vertical pieces in them came off their track, so I decided to fix them.
When I went to snap the piece of dash (with the clock) back into place, I noticed these 4 clips. Here's a pic:

I realized that the last time I opened this dash (to fix my clock), I closed it the wrong way and that these clips were supposed to be under the black part in the air vent, not over like I previously had done, which was what caused the air vents to break.
Anyways, I put the piece back in with the clips under that piece, and it just doesn't seem like it closed right. There is a big gap between the air conditioning and clock piece, and the black piece in the air vents is raised over the clips. Here are a few pics:

Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this?
Thanks,
-Nick

Same thing happened to me when I installed my head unit
I pulled the clock area upward causing the vent area to separate. All the little pieces that make up the vent disassembled (there are 6 beige vents and two black side pieces). After fussing with it for awhile, I decided to just not have center vents. Later, I was able to pull out the clock and vent the correct way and I felt confident to fix the vents. I took the whole assembly to my kitchen table and spent 10 minutes fixing it. The tabs you see are to go underneath the black vent area. There are little grooves below the black vent surface that the beige tabs fit into. TRY VERY HARD NOT TO DISRUPT THE LITTLE VENT PIECE...You'll have a handfull to work with.
I did see a beige clock and vent assembly on ebay. I think it closes in a few days. If you don't want to fiddle with it, I think buying a new one is an easy way out. As far as the dash not lining up, you can use two small washers at the top screw mounts where the stereo section meets the center dash.

Yeah those little vents are a MAJOR PITA to fix! But, I went out there again, and pushed really hard and voila...my dash is back to normal!
So, no more problem. Thanks for your input Kev.
