Hi,
I am at college and the ONLY nissan dealer is CHARGING 25.00 for changing my motor oil and replacing my oil filter.

I was in an AUTO Store, I noticed they were selling a cap that fits over the oil filter which you remove/install the oil filter. I thought I could used my hand to remove/install the oil filter.

How many quarts of 5w30 do I need?
Do I need to replace anything else?

Thanks,
David

Although when you install an oil filter they are only habd tight, they seem to get really tight after a while
Youd need a pretty tight grip to twist the filter off. or else get a screw driver and hammer. use the hammer to ram the screw driver through the filter and then use the screw driver like a lever. But thats if your a dairy farmer like me who doesnt do things the right way. Im not recommending it though

on my maxima i could actually reach the oil filter by hand and twist it off unlike other engines I've dealt with. it was actually easier using the right tool than a screw driver and hammer (which is the only way to do it on my CJ due to the fawkin motor mounts in the way)

No, don't pop holes in anything! I do my changes, for about 15 years now. Purchase oil filter pliers (the only oil filter wrench you'll ever need) and a catch pan! Preferably one with a pouring spout. Get the oil and filter you need. 1st remove oil filter cap. Then remove oil drain plug behind removable plastic shroud, right front wheel. Just turn the wheels to the right for clearance. Let oil drain into pan, remove oil filter via the wrench. Line up oil pan so that it will catch the oil from plug and filter area. rub a film of oil on rubber gasket of new filter. Install, hand tight, nice and snug. Replace oil drain plug. Fill oil (APPROX) 5qts. Look for leaks! OK, no leaks. Take oil from drain pan and put into empty bottles for recycling. Peace!!
