KILLED a brand new celica

last night, mad late like 3 in the morning. this punk in a red celica started cruisin next to me. but of course, i paid it no mind. then i looked over and saw his boy givin me the finger and showin off some rude suggestions. all the while, the driver kept givin the car juice to sort of jump a little ahead of me. almost too good to be true, there just so happened to be a red light ahead. so i pointed straight at it, he knew what was up. we sat there for a second, then it turned green. we both floored it. i started to spin out (i have really crappy tires), so he beat me for about half a second off the line.....but then i got traction, and it was bye bye celica. within seconds i was easily 2 car lengths ahead of him. AND THEN.... there was another red light. we both couldn't fully stop before it turned green, so it was sort of a rolling start. i still wooped him bad too. so i figured we were all through, i thought this dude learned his lesson. but then he finally catches up with me, and i see his buddy still has his middle finger pointed at me. but i pay it no mind, i let him get ahead of me. then..... there's another red light. by this time, he is at least 2 car lengths AHEAD of me when the light turns green. we both floor it, i hear his rice boy engine start to squeal like a female cat in heat, and again.... it's bye bye celica. 3 times in a row. my car is still stock, i have no idea what his car was. i know most celica's are no match for max's, but it still gave me the best adrenaline rush in the world, cause that was pretty much my first REAL racing experience. i just got new lightweight rims from sweetsound, i can't wait to put them on and test them out. if anyone really wants to know, it was on W Kennedy BLVD in tampa. let me know whatcha think.

Unlike a honda I kept whipping and he got really agro and started tailing me and while I tried to lose him in the rain, he crash and write off his car. Bit of a price to pay to try and beat a maxima?

With either engine, you should be able to beat it. Why don't you race some V6's instead of picking on 4 bangers.

That GTS would give you come stiff competition....

Curb weight on the Manual is only 2500 even, and the auto is 2580.
It's got close HP stock to the max...180...it'd be a good race imo.

My girlfriend is sending her car upstate to a comptech (sp?) shop for a V-8 transplant in her GT-S. They've already completed over 1,000 transplants on celicas. Watch out, you don't know who's going to be that sleeper that rips you apart. (My girlfriends car isn't one of those "sleepers") But next thing you know, you pull up next to a stock looking Celica, maybe the guy threw a "GT" emblem on the back and took the "GT-S" off, and you're done. Stay safe, congratulations on your win

yea.....

i know i shouldn't pick on small cars like the celica, but remember, he's the one who instigated the event. HE asked for it, HE got it. i love putting people in their place. and again, it was my first real racing experience, so i thought i'd share it with all of you. ya, i'll watch out for sleepers. i want to keep mine a sleeper also. and if anyone in tampa wants to know, it's a 98 dark evergreen gxe, spoiler, and the only way you can tell it apart right now is it has a soccer ball dangling from the rear view mirror. i go to UT, but no, i'm not a spoiled little rich boy.

definitely a good kill. as far as picking on v6's, i see your point, but as far as imports go, there's not much in our v6 class even worth the effort of pressing the gas pedal down. Galant or Diamante? No. 626 or Millenia? No. Accord? No. CL Type-S? Maybe. Camry or Avalon? #$LL NO!! The other v6's within the import domain have a nice, healthy turbo slapped on them, eliminating them from us. Domestics may have a few in our range, but they're nasty too. So, I have to admit, it's not so insane to race a 4-banger after all. Eh?

Nice kill! Still don't crow too hard, especially if it was only a GT and not the GT-S 6-spd. 140 vs 190, and torque difference, forget about it. Race a car that is worthy of racing. I know you still what to put the smack on them, do it once and for get it.

I smoked a brand new celica recently, he had M/T, I had A/T, with 15' stock alloys. He had a blonde girl sitting next to him, I was tired and just trying to go home fast. I was ahead by 1 car thruout.
At one point his engine was just making noise not power...

Future match-ups i'd like to have:
millenia-s
taurus sho
saab 9-3 turbo.
i have problem picking on bmw's, they ignore most of us.

Raced also

Me and my friend raced one night. He has a standard Celica GT and I have a 5speed Max. We were both bone stock at the time ( we actually picked up his celica then he drove me to pick up my max in it about 10 minutes later. I blew him away without much effort on a local strip we went to. But his was the GT and not the GT-S which means he was down about 50 HP. If you come up to a Automatic GT-S - DO IT ! We test drove one and it was god awfull at everything. Maybe I just love the 5 speeds but it felt crappy as anything.

and just last month there was a post where two automagic 4th gener's admited to losing to 5spd gt's cuz of their light weight and "killer gearing"

Ruckus if your a auto and beat a celica by that much you probably raced an auto (SLOW) celica.

Did you guys know the 5 spd GT is faster than the auto GT-S?
it's a slow one

That's not surprising. The auto's ratios probably aren't matched up with the engine's power characteristics.

Not that the six-speed is any better: a redline shift from first gear lands you below VVTi territory when you hit 2nd! not a good thing.

As far as I know, the only auto version of a car that's faster than its manual counterpart are the six-speed Merc's. But that's because their manual sux.

Thats why I said when we test drove the 5 and the Auto on the same day we both knew that the auto was just awfull. It did not feel like it was meant for the car or it matched up well at all.

I saw a guy the other day with the slogan "Actions speak louder than body kits" on the back windshield of his civic. Don't know how fast his car was, but I had to agree with the slogan.

my friends got a celica gts manual with the action packaage, and just like the commercial it only "looks fast" hehe but truthfully, its pretty fast, i think the 0-60 is like 6.7 cos its so light, but i think ill whoop him when i get my 97 GLE auto with overdrive off and starting in 2.

actually it's possible to land in VVTL-i on the 1-2 shift. if you calculate it out, the 1-2 shift isn't possible to land on the 2nd cam, but if you press the accelerator & release the clutch simultaneously it's possible cuz the tires will spin. yes I know, that sucks

The GTS arent that fast if you have mods. I have a PR CAI, Stillen Y, RT cat and custom 3" dual cat-back and I walk all over the new GTS Celecas. Raced a guy at the track, he pulled a 17.2 and I ate him up with a 16.5(I live in Colorado, 6000 feet). I'll quit picking on the poor I4's when they learn that their cars are not all that fast. I guess I'll just have to keep showing them they arent one at a time...Nice kill btw.

Does the GTS come in anything but 6-speed and auto

as kit99bar said..

i was one of the 4th gen's that got beat by a celica..

GT-S 6-speed 180HP is one fast car.. plus the guy had some mods.. you raced a little 4 banger, no doubt about it. You can always tell the series of the car by the wheels.. if he had hubcaps or small rims, its a 4 banger.. lol..

The max is simply too heavy to keep up with such a light car without a few more mods then intake, ypipe, and exhaust..

I still don't know if the kid i raced had HAPPY gas, because he pulled on me at 100, which i thought was very unlikely, but that may just be the 6-speed vs my auto.. cant wait for my 5spd conversion.

This is what I can tell you for sure about the GTS I raced.
1)Stick shift - 5 or 6 gears...not sure
2)GTS on back of car with dealers temporary sticker(the one you get right after buying the car)
3)16 year old driver(probably couldnt shift for crap, but a kill is a kill)
4)He lost to my max at the track

Dont believe me, thats fine, I know I won and to me thats all that matters.

the GT-S i raced i know was a 6-speed.. saw the exhaust the CF wing, the 17" rims, and the body kit, couldnt hear anything cuz my stereo was blarring and my intake/ypipe/exhaust drown the rest out..

But a kill is a kill.. I bet that kid enjoying seeing the exhaust come out of both those exhaust pipes kirk.. lol

He did comment on how good it sounded with the dual exhaust after the race It took 5 hours to have that custom made and installed on my car...not including the 45 or so minutes I spent making sure the hole in the bumper on the left side is EXACTLY symetrical to the stock one on the right. It was worth it though...sounds like a V8 rustang
