Spring Installation Prices...

Most of my local performance shops run $200-$250, but once local shop I go to quoted me $135. I got them installed for free (I love connections), but remeber you will still have to pay $50+ for an alignment (you must go to a shop that does camber).

How much have you guys paid for installation of lowering springs?
I don't want to pay only $60 and have something done wrong.

Thanks
Do it yourself.
But $200 seems like an average price. Call out to maxima owners in your area and see if anyone is willing to help.

Re: Re: Spring Install Pricing

It's usually 2 hrs labor. So find the cheapest labor and go there if you are worried about price.

spring compressors can be rented from your local auto parts store for free (deposit required).

Read this over and see if you can handle it.

WHAT!! $200!!! That's a total rip off. they will try to tell you that it will cost more because it's a Max.. it's more difficult.. bla, bla... but they are lying to you. It is the same as lowering a Civic or integra. You shouldn't pay more than $80-100 without an alignment. Even that's high.

Did mine last Saturday. The job is pretty easy, you need a good spring compressor and I highly recommend replacing the strut bearing while you have it apart.

Also,

If a place doesn't really want to do it, they might charge you a bit more.

A local racing shop in Seattle quoted me $140 to install both Struts and Springs....$200 is way too high for just springs.

I then went to the local Midas, and they wanted $600.00!!!

Midas are a bunch of sheisty bastar*s.

Hey Nick
Nice set of instructions, thanks.
I have a set of H&Rs I think I'll try to install this weekend.
Two things though...
In jpg 5 it looks like you’re using a 12-pack as a jack stand. Is this recommended? Should they be cold?
Also, the thumbnail for jpg 13 duplicates the tn for jpg. 14…
I know, a small detail in an otherwise perfect how-to.
Thanks again

Use anything you can find to support the rotor. We didn't have a good picture, so we used the same one .

Thanks

I'm that guy from rfield.
You around this weekend?
Wanna help install some springs?
I'm not going to replace the struts yet
and seeing how you've already done it,
this shouldn't even take but a couple of hours...

Actually, I went and got a price today. They told me it take about 4 hrs. Most shops charge about $55 an hour, so about $250.

i am desperate for help on installing my springs! i bought a used set of eibachs/tokicos and the guy that sold it to me told me i have the rear springs installed upside down! he said the word "eibach" must be legible on all the springs and not upside down..i called eibach and the tech guy said the same about the rear -that "eibach" must be legible from the wheel well. i just don't see how that will work. the springs seems like it won't fit that way! i'm probably wrong..but that would mean i need someone's help with spring compressors since i've never used them before. for the fronts, the progressive coils (tighter coils) must be pointed up. its just pretty frustrating. the rear end is slightly lower than the front and i get a noise eminating from the R rear shock. i don't want to drive it now that i know its mounted "upside down." if anyone can help me out with directions on spring compressors and which way the springs are supposed to be mounted, i'd appreciate it. i'm in the south jersey area if you feel like helping me reinstall my rears does anyone else have them installed upside down? haha

VQdriver -
not sure about how all of the compressors work but the cheapest [and therefore most common variety] are basically a threaded rod with hooks on them. You open then up all the way, stick the hooks on each end of the spring and then tighten a nut. This moves the hooks closer together and compresses the spring. A power tool or a drill with a socket attachement helps a lot here. You need to use two compressors at a time on the spring - about 180degrees apart - and tighten them each a little at a time, alternating from one to the other. use common sense - and never point the ends of the spring towards your body. If you rent them, ask for a demonstration or instructions. If you buy them they should oughtta come with instructions. If you're even just a little handy you shouldn't have any problems. good luck

strut bearing

You can get strut berings at autozone for ~$25 a piece. I asked at my local autozone and they said they would have to order, so check in advance. Good luck on the install.
