front strut problem?

I recently put new front and rear struts (Monroe SensaTrac) on a 95 GXE with new rubber parts and strut bearings with the old factory springs. Now when I reach into the front wheel well I can rotate the top spring mount about 0.5 inch. Is this normal-I never tried this with the original struts? Everything is tightened to specifications.

Why are you doing this anyway?

As long as there are no other suspension issues, I wouldnt worry about it.

i don't think that is normal the spring should have tension on it all the time so it shouldn't be able to rotate while seated properly on the strut. are you sure that you have the strut put back together properly?

I gotta agree with 99NosMax. There should be so much tension between the spring and the strut basket that you shouldn't be able to spin it that much. If it doesn't squeak or rattle I'd probably leave it alone. But if you wanted to check it out I would make sure that each end of the spring coil where there is a 'nub' formed was sitting in the indetnion of the strut basket. When it is in there it should prevent movement. One last thing, make sure you put the struts back on the correct sides of the car. There is a little rounded notch cut out of the top of the basket. I think this notch is supposed to be out away from the engine bay. Hope this helps.
