Should I Get the RT Cat?

Just wondering if the RT Cat will make a big difference in power on my car. I have a '97 SE. Right now I have a STILLEN Intake. I also plan on getting the Cattman SS Y-pipe and the GReddy Catback Exhaust. Should I get the RT Cat too, or will the Y-pipe, GReddy, and Intake be enough?

Thanks,
-Nick

As far as power I have seen people say it is only about 1 HP it gives you while others say it gives up to 14HP. There are people on here without it dipping into like 14.5 ranges such as theblue. You might want to try without first and see how the system does you for now. Then if you feel like you need more try chancing it with the RT Cat but like I said some people say no difference with it.

Cool...thanks SuDZ.

I think I'll have plenty of power with just the Intake, Y-Pipe, and GReddy, but I wanted to see if anyone knew if it would help at all if I added the RT Cat.

Thanks again!

It will help if your old cat is pretty clogged.

Thats true. But for the Hundred bucks I would save it and do a search on the forums here. There is a way to take ot off and declog it. Put it towards another mod.

You will notice more midrange and top end power. Not much if your stock cat isnt clogged much, but if it is its like a new car if you add all those parts at once. I say try it without it and see how that goes...then maybe later get the RT.

I have one wait for my lazy *** to put in. I'm not expecting too much, but I couldn't pass up the deal that I got.

If you have a Supercharger or NOS I think it would help you more. But I'd get the Y-pipe and Cat-back first, then maybe get the RT cat. For close to the same price you could buy the UDP.

Other than the mufflers what benefits does the cat back give you?

The cat back is basically a B-pipe with a new muffler. I would think that the b-pipe would give you more than the muffler. If you take a look at the stock b-pipe you'll notice that there is a nasty crimp where it bends over the rear beam. Aftermarket b-pipes don't have this crimp, so it provides better air flow.

And some NOISE! My car sounds like a mustang GT! Deep growl that some of us love. Plus your midrange power goes up.

I have the intake, y-pipe, b-pipe, and 5th gen muffler on my 97. The RT cat is sitting in the box waiting to be put on. I had the intake and y-pipe on first and the gains were very noticable. I added the Courtesy B-pipe and 5th gen muffler a week later and felt more gains; not as much as the y-pipe, but definitely a significant gain. I think the Y and B-pipe opens the air flow passage big time. The 5th gen muffler serves to maintain the needed backpressure and opens up in the mid range.

I'm gonna have a work day soon and install my RT cat, redo my tail lights, install the Wilwoods, SS brakelines, reinstall the rear strut bar, and mount my amp....Yeah I'm incredible lazy!
