Is it possible to make your car faster without increasing the noise factor
Is it possible to make your car faster without increasing the noise factor
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I want to make my car faster with out sacrificing the quiet ride. I installed the Stillen Intake and that's not too bad unless I really punch it. I don't want to hear the the engine while driving on the highway or cruising around town.
Or maybe something with minimal increase in noise with increase in hp.
Is this possible?

1. Yes it will keep the ride quiter being the stock muffler and all. They do it that way for people who want the car but not all the rumble.
2. I am not sure if it actually increases HP but here iswhat it will do for you. On the 2000+ muffler they added a second output chamber. The point of it is that at lower rpm/speeds there is a valve in the muffler itself that stays closed. The point is that you wont lose as much low end pressure because of too much air flowing out of both at once. Now when you get higher RPM/speed it opens the valve allowing more pressure that is building up to get out. That helps you at higher speeds.
So I dont know if it actually increases HP or just uses it better. But does seem worth it.
3. I have always like the look better with two chambers coming out.

hmmm.... how bout this?
No one has mentioned the ECU upgrade! It's a good 20-25 HP (almost double the Y-pipe) and doesn't add any noise. Nixes your speed limiter and elevates rev limiter by 500 rpm's. JWT is good for that stuff, especially if you want nitrous too.

dko....sorry buddy...ECU does NOT give you even close to 20 hp let alone 25...it's more like 6-8hp. The y-pipe is still the best stand alone N/A mod you can do to a maxima.
Miguel...no they STILL don't have any ecu for 97 or above.

Re: bs!
But what you don't realize is the total gain of the JWT ECU. Lets say for the sake of arguement that you get 5hp from the ECU and intake. I can say 100% that the car with the ECU would pull the car with the intake all day long. The reason why is because the ECU has so much more average torque. While both may have the same power at 5000-6500rpm, the ECU will have at least 4-8fwtq more from 2000-5000rpm. Not only does the intake equipped car get pulled off the line but it gets pulled after every shift. The ECU and Y pipe are the best upgrades for NA cars. Together the torque they produce is awesome.

I like the deep groul that my BMW E46 Coupe has... My Max has more of a airy sound..

To answer your question, bottom line, no! You can add an intake that is quiet until you get on it. You can do exhaust work that will add a little more(noise and hp). Then there are just a couple of things that add- under drive pulley, frees up 5 hp, or NOS. It's tough to add mods and keep it quiet. I have been looking into finding chips for the 97-99 but no one emails me back. There are a couple of places in Australia that I might try calling. Will just have to figure out the time zone difference.
