Pop charger vs. Stock air box

Does anybody know the advantage of the stock air box? I mean, if pop charger is good, what is the reason that almost ANY car uses the air box while the stock air box is so expensive (think about the air pipe, box, filter and all other thing just for the getting the air into the engine). I personally got a JWT. Thanks for any reply.

The main reason that OEM intake systems are so convoluted and funny shaped is noise control. They have all those baffles and resonators to keep them quiet.

I have switched back and forth

To find that the more restrict air flow seems to create a little more torque than the open air filter. Personally I enjoy the noise of the JWT and Stillen intake. It give the car the GRRRRRRR that I want.

Yea, and the low-end loss from a popcharger is so minimal (if any) that I couldn't feel it. And once you get other parts such as the Y-Pipe, that will improve significantly and might even reverse the effects.

It's all about the noise. Most of us like the cone filter noise, but alot dont.

Yeah, I understand that the sound is really good (because i have one) and also some people don't like the sound. But I'm asking whether there is an advantage of using the air box. making the car quiet is one of the reason, and I know that now. Thanks. But how does the OEM air box help having higher torgue than the pop charger? cooler air from outside the hood. and what exactly are baffles and resonators?

I actually thought that the pop charger slowed my car down alot. I put the stock airbox back in and then I KNEW that the pop charger slowed my car down. I have to say that I like the noise though.

Slowed down off the line or slowed down overall. I can live with slowing down off the line. How much extra work does it take to press the gas pedal down a little harder?

But I've noticed that the car was faster up top. That, I can live with.

I just didn't like the fact that my car was making all this noise and I felt like my car wasn't going anywhere.. Top end was great. Me, I would rather have low end. I mean I wish there was something that could be good top and low end for that price. I think the CAI is the same way but I hope someone could prove me wrong..

The stock airbox is meant to control noise levels...and the Maxima's engine is pretty quiet in stock form. Not Toyota Camry quiet, but not too bad either. With the POP charger, it's louder, but not by much.

That's exactly what I noticed, so I kept the airbox, plus I got annoyed by the sound after a month or so.

The CAI Always sounds good Don't hear it (except a teeny cool sounding hiss like a turbo) when cruising, then a race car yell at WOT. I don't feel a loss in lo end torque either compared to stock. The torque loss you may feel in the POP chargers may be due to the sudden gulp of warm air as you tip in the throttle. After that though, the rush of air thru the engine bay would bring in cooler air thru the POP charger. The CAI gets that cool air all the time.

I agree abotu noise

Alot of people that buy the car are not into the loud Corvette or Mustang type noises from the engine. They are people who just want something quite and reliable. So if they heard the louder engine they might shy away. It is why alot of companies put in there ads how you dont hear anything from the outside and things like that.

It is very hard to guage low end power gain or loss with automatic transmissions... because the torque converter is so mushy anyway.

5-speed transmissions are better to judge what is going on at the low end.

The biggest intake restriction is actually just downstream of the MAF. If you get rid of that convoluted sculpture and use the CAI upper section, you should find some nice torque gains in the lower midrange. Once you do that, you can notice a milder improvement by disconnecting the square tube that hooks up at the bottom of the air box.

The primary advantage?? It is quiet and assists with more low end air velocity than a JWT. Forget about top end past 5000rpms because then its the intake plenum runners that are the bottleneck.

I personaly switched from pop charger to stock today. I like it stock tell you the truth. It was fun at first with pop but then I got used to it and pop is not loud at all, specially in 1st and 4th gear. I want something loud as hell.

<HELP>what if I get the upper tube from maf to engine. Can i still keep the stock air box? Thanks.
