Some people say to keep the stock muffler. How does that help you and is it required?

 

With the Y-pipe, most aftermarket mufflers are really loud. Keeping the stock muffler with those mods quiets it down. From what I have been hearing, it only kills like 2-3 horsepower.

 

How loud can the stock muffler get if you have all aftermarket exaust minus the muffler?

 

It's really still quite quiet. If a full-blown, straight-thru rear muffler'd exhaust is a 10 in terms of loudness and a stock Maxima is 0, then a Maxima with full exhaust but with stock rear muffler would rate around 2. The only noticeable change is the exhaust tone gets lower and more menacing, but there's very little increase in decibels. Very civilized, but has a distinctively non-stock low tone.
