Airbags do more harm than good anyways. You would need to disable both airbags, because they are on the same circuit. Then you have to get resistors to fill in the disabled parts so that you don't have the airbag warning light flashing in your dash all the time.

Why not have him ride in the back? Just a suggestion.

it is illegal to disable a working air bag.......
i agree with Ravq have him ride in the back much safer.....
if the air bag didn't work, there is still the windshield much harder that the back of your seat

It's not illegal for the owner of the vehicle to disable an airbag, and a shop can do it with a letter from the government allowing it.

OK we all understand this is illegal.. But it is your own damn car...
So here is the best way to disable your air bag system.. (you have to do both)
Take the negative cable from the battery..
take the center consul out of the car.. disconnect that box you see in the middle w/ the yellow (on 96 it is) cable. (just remove the cable.. ) put everything back together.. When it is time to sell your car reconnect the box following the same procedure.. Your light won't be on because it has been powerless the entire time it was disconnected...
If you wreck your car while it is disconnected.. You may need a new box.. (not quite sure how it works) but if you do and you hook it all back up and your light is on you need a box...

Just a warning. You will need to place a resistor in the terminals of the plug to get the dash light to go off. To find the value you'll need, get a variable resistor and hook it up. DO NOT use a multimeter to find the Ohm reading of the airbag...it will go off in your face. The multimeter applies current and measures voltage drop to get resistance...

Well, you need to unplug the airbags BEFORE you start prodding around in the wiring.
