O2 Sensor - 95 SE
#1
I read many postings on this board about the check engine light (MIL) coming on. Mine came on yesterday after about 20 miles after filling up with gas. This would be the 4th sensor replaced. I bought the car brand new and have about 47K on it. The dealer said there is no recall on sensors and it can be a multitude of things. I am smelling gas not the fumes. Perhaps this is an indication on what is wrong. I'm sure others have had this problem and would like to know how it was corrected.

Yeah, make sure that you click the gas cap 3 or 4 times, because the fuel system vacuums itself when the engine is cranked, and if the cap leaks, the ECU will set the light off.

Would the light go off after tightening the cap?
The Check Engine light may turn on because of a loose fuel filler cap. However, that is a "two trip" failure. The Engine Control Module must perform the EVAP test sequence and detect a failure on two successive trips to turn on the Check Engine light.
Similarly, the ECM may turn off the Check Engine light after "n" successful EVAP tests. I'm not sure about the value of "n" but it might be 20.

Get the code
Go to the MaxFAQ http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/ and find how to retrieve the code yourself before going to the dealer...
