Ethanol in Fuel

Was just talking to my friend who filled up on 94 octane, said it was 10% ethanol. I thought i read somewhere that a high ethanol content is bad for nissans (dont remember the details unfortunately). Whats the story behind this?

Some geographic regions have relatively severe air pollution problems. Fueling stations in those areas are required to sell oxygenated fuel. Now that MTBE is in disfavor, gasohol is the most common oxygenated fuel.

Alcohol has a lower energy density than gasoline. The government says that motorists using gasohol may achieve 3% less miles per gallon compared to pure gasoline. However, actual experience reported by Maxima owners is more like 10% worse mileage.

As the saying goes, YMMV.
