Help with my Max...Stuts/Shocks?
Help with my Max...Stuts/Shocks?
What up fellas? I have a 97 Maxima SE and it's been lowered with tokiko shocks. When I take a sharp left turn at real slow speeds, I hear a scary knocking sound. Do I need new springs up front, new shocks or new struts? And what are struts??! Do I have them or do i need them? Help before I go to the dealer and leave my wallet and Max to the mercy of the dealer mechanic....

Tokicos alone do not lower your car. You need lowering springs. I am gonna asume your springs are still stock by the post. All you did is replace the shocks/struts. The fronts are struts, and the rears are shocks(although many still refer to them as struts due to the similarity.) Who cares anyway. As long as you can identify the difference.
Make sure everything is torqued when the car is on the ground. Make sure you assembled the springs in the original position. And check to make sure the struts are facing the right way. There is a small "OUT" etched lightly on the top of the strut housing. And I think a notch on the lower piece.
Sorry about that...I have sport springs that were cut to get the rim to fit perfeclty and Tokiko shocks with 18X8 Gewalt rims. Cool, thanks for the advice....now I have some amunition for when I talk to the mechanic....
