This practice, by itself, does no harm at all. However, if you are doing this to force the transmission into performing unnatural acts, then you are doing damage. What is meant by unnatural acts is full-throttle shifts or over-revving the engine. If you are driving moderately and enjoying driving "make-believe stick-shift" then you are okay.

Chirping any gear is an abusive driving practice. Don't do it.

you can chirp 2nd at 4000?

Tranny cooler is good to help keep the tranny fluid from over heating, which as I've heard is one of the primary causes for tranny failures.
If you love to chirp, get a 5spd but manual shifting is ok i suppose, as DBM said. It's the same thing when you are cruising around 45 or so with the OD off, then turn it on and the car shifts up to 4th gear.

A transmission fluid cooler will help... but don't kid yourself. Cooler fluid does not prevent clutch wear-out.

It disturbs me to read posts written by owners who drive their cars hard and then complain about Nissan building weak automatic transmissions. No engine and no tranny is truly bulletproof. If you mistreat it, it will break. Mistreatment includes lack of maintenance and abusive driving.

Let me go on record as saying that I certainly drive my car really hard every day. I have never ever had a single problem with my transmission.

I like my Nissan AutoMagic just fine.

if you really want to chirp your tires, put on some cheap, old, hard, skinny tires. you'll chirp all day long. probably get some spectacular understeer to boot. big fun.
