Idler Pulley Replacement

I'm planning on replacing the idler pulley and belts this weekend. The bearings on the pulley are bad and the whole assembly is wobbling when the engine is running. My question is how do you remove the pulley? I see the nut you have to loosen to adjust the belt tension. If I remove the nut will the pulley slide off? Please let me know if you removed your pulley and how did you do it.

Re: Idler Pulley Replacement

The idler pulley had two bolts. One on the tension rod which you can see from above (actually the piece is bolt shaped) and one on the pulley itself (easier seen by jacking up the car and removing the wheel well lining. A new assembly is about $18 from Courtesy but you might want to check if the nut on the pulley itself is tight. Torque spec is 25-32lbs

I called Courtesy this week and they said the part was $40, $50 list. It was sold as and "Idler Pulley Assembly" that included the pulley and a long bolt. I'm assume the long bolt is the adjuster. You are saying I can buy just the pulley with the bearings installed? BTW: I attempted to tighten the nut last week and it was super tight so I think its safe to assume the bearing are bad.

Yes, it's about $39.. sorry for the misquote. The pulley is only sold as a whole assembly. The long bolt is the tension rod (adjuster). The unit is a DIRECT replacement for the existing assembly. No parts to swap.

I just bought the pulley this morning from Star Nissan. They gave me a price that was only a few dollars more than Courtesy. It looks pretty easy to install. Thanks for your help Confused.
