I am looking at buying a 96 gxe with 88k miles. the seller told me that her check engine light has gone on because of the reformulated gas that we have here in wisconsin. The car runs great with no sign of problems. Is this a common problem with the maxima. ay input would be great thanks

That's impossible.

California uses reformulated gas and my check engine light never goes on.

Make sure you check the code on the ECU to find out what the real problem is!

My latest letter from my dealer showed that there has been a recall on the check engine light on the 96 maxima. U may want to look into that.

Hey Speedy!

Its most likely caused by the O2 sensors. Very common problem, and a minor one at that. Bring it to the dealer and they will replace the sensors for free under the recall.

Have the owner agree to have Nissan look at it. Check to see that all the recall notices have been performed and have the dealer hook up the Consult to see if there have been any recent check engine ecu code errors listed.
