Daniel Martin - Help with Brakes
Hi,
I have two questions.
PART A
Hello All,
I need to install new front pads soon on my 99 GXE
Searching thru previous posts and the sticky, I feel that Raybestos would be fine for me (if Raybestos is fine for DBM, then it should be fine for me. Period. I value DBM's opinion very much) - and I am not a very aggressive driver.
Raybestos has 3 product lines that are suitable for 99 Maxima
1) Raymold - Organic - (Part # RPD 653) - Around 25 bucks
2) PG Plus - Organic - (Part # PGD 653) - Around 25 bucks
3) Quiet Stop - Ceramic - (Part # PGD 653 QS) - Around 55 bucks
Does anyone know what the relative benefits are for one vis-a-vis the others ?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Manish
END OF PART A
PART B
Right way to apply 'Disc Brake quiet'
The Haynes manual picture on 9-9 indicates that two stubby 'ARCS' of the compound need to be applied on the pads.
However, when I purchased Permatex Blue goo, the instructions say that I should apply a "thin layer spread out evenly" on the pads.
Who is right ? Or is it that either technique works fine ?
Thanks in advance.

I went to the Raybestos Web site http://www.raybestos.com/ and could not find anything about Raymold. That's a mystery.
As mentioned in ealier posts I have had good results with Raybestos products. I'm not fussy. The parts man asks if I want semi-metallic or organic. I say organic. He puts a box on the counter. I pay him and walk away with my purchase.

Questoin for Daniel
I was wondering how much brake fluid is needed to bleed the brake system after installing a complete set of stainless steel lines. I have 30 oz. but am afraid I might run out in the middle of bleeding. Thanks.

Re: Proud
Thank you Daniel B. Martin and Gumby.
I got the Raybestos PG Plus pads, and some
disc brake quiet (the red goo).
Used some brake cleaner on existing brakes, and used the retainers, shims and anti rattle springs from my old brake assembly.
Whole operation took 40 minutes start to finish, and the Raybestos Pads fitted perfectly.
There are no squeaks and squeals, and I am very happy with the results.
I would reccommend Raybestos PG plus pads to anybody who is happy with stock Nissan pads.
