tune up on 98 maxima se with 95k miles?

My 98 Maxima SE has been a pleasure to drive. Since it is at 95K miles already, should I get a tune up? I believe they suggest one at 60K which I never got. Dealer says it would cost $270 for tune up only (replace plugs, adjust timing and idling, inspect wires). Is that reasonable? Also, do you think I need a fuel filter change? If so, how much do you think the dealer will hit me up for it? Please help. Thanks.

Yes, do the tune up. You can do it yourself if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. If not, just take it to the dealer. You should be able to change the fuel filter yourself though. Its right out in the open. You'll fell a dramatic increase in power and fuel economy afterwards. The car will run quieter. It'll make you feel better.

Damn, 98

I thought I had alot of miles on my 98. Right as 60k. I am ready for new plugs. People on the forum seem to notice a performance change.

Hey guys how long do you think the accessory belts will really last on a 97? I didn't change mine when I did my 60k service myself. How much longer should I go, I got 65k miles now.

I have a 99 with 94k miles and the belts still are in decent condition with just little wear on the underside. Dealer wanted to replace it for $120. There are 2 years difference between mine and yours so your belts could go through more weather-wear, even though it has less mileage than mine. You could simply check its condition to be sure.

$270 is too expensive for spark plugs, timing, etc. Dealer hear wanted $180-$200. Also there aren't any wires/distributor on the '95+ right?

Today I took my car to the dealer to have my fuel filter replaced and to have my car inspected at 67k. I was told that my belts were cracking and they advised me to have them replaced. It ended up costing me $90 to have them replaced.

I would recommend having your belts replaced at 65k. You rather be safe then sorry.

Cheers...
