it has 46k miles. automatic. silver with black leather interior. don't know for sure but most likely never wrecked. great shape. bose stereo. sunroof.
Nada says avg trade is 15350 and retail 17575. I was thinking about starting around $15k but offering no higher than 16,400 which is in the middle.. I believe they are asking $18900. does this sound like an o.k deal??? thanks!!

I don't believe I could get a 2000 SE below $20k. I guess I could drive the GXE but not sure I'd be happy with it. thanks!

I have a GXE with a sunroof. My car had 56k miles when I got it, it was around 10.5 grand. It was a fairly good deal and not from the dealer. The dealer has a habit for charging blue book value on used cars. I'd look around private car lots if I were you. Save yourself a good 2 grand at least. Loaded 97s are going for less than 13 grand around here. I'd be you, i'd really hold over. Give him an offer, leave contact info and walk out. They'll probably get back to you with a lower price. If not, don't stress it, there are plenty of Maximas for sale now and way cheaper then that.
BTW, about your point regarding GXEs. There are GXEs with sunroofs. Alloy wheels you can buy for less than 450$ with tires. The better handling is because of slightly stiffer suspension of the SE in comparison to the GXE... You can get aftermarket lowering springs and struts which will make your GXE handle much better then any stock SE. besides there are other suspension upgrades which will save you crazy $ in you are going to be buying an SE because of handling.

take it back and watch what happens
Look these guys are attempting to get rid of these cars Why 02 is out so take that son of a gun back its not tooo late and watch how quickly he ll drop the price on it they will try it not too late. Trust me my boy just took 3 cars back kept them for a week each and took them back. They need to make that sale. Yes you can get a 2k for about $19,000 and some change, those cars have got to go off the lot. My friend just picked up a 97 max for $13000 from atlanta with 46k miles on it, and its a SE as well fully loaded. I d rather have a 2k gxe that a 98 SE anytime.

Location, previous owners etc. all make a difference
Depends where you're located in the country too. Some markets are definitely skewed towards the dealers or the drivers. In Wisconsin it seems that everyone is willing to pay a premium for low mileage cars; I drove a '98 SE 5-speed 40k loaded with leather, bose & climate control. The dealer wanted $18,900 and wasn't out of line with other similar SE's at the time. Private sellers were maybe $1500 under dealers.
I bought my '98 SE 5-speed just a few months ago from a family member. It's not loaded by any means; sunroof and power seats only, no ABS or climate control. He babied it for 34k miles and then sold to me for $15,200 which was $2500 less than I found anywhere else for cars with more miles and dubious maintenance histories.
Good luck. With finance rates dropping and car dealers feeling the pinch, the dealer is more likely to take a low-ball offer.

TOM
