Random Tech. cat + Y-pipe

I already have a $tillen y-pipe on my car and I wanted a little extra boost in power; what (if any) difference would a new catalytic converter from Random Tech make? Custommaxima claims a 14 hp increase....

I felt nothing, but it made the car run smoother and it doesn't drone as bad.

So is it worth the $175 bucks? There's not a whole lot else I can do performance-wise for that price, right?

hell no. its only worth it if your stock cat is old and not functioning properly. mine leaks and i think i have heard of others leaking as well.

B-pipe... CAI, will yeild high HP, with a Y-pipe, if you don't aready have one.

My cat did reduce the drone too...dont really remember any astounding performance gains.

If you don't already have one, get a custom 2.5 inch cat-back with no resonator, along with your high flow cat. Also what kind of muffler do you have, if you have a stock muffler i would recommend an Apexi N1 or HKS Hyper muffler.

there is no way

a CAT can give ya 14 hp!! The CAI probably doesn't give ya that much... best bolt on bang for the buck = Y-pipe which gives around 15 hp +/-

Well first I have to fix the leak in my Y-pipe, which will probably improve performance more than a new cat anyway.

I don't know about auto's but my UDP on a 5-spd. was a very nice gain!

Dont you lose a lot of back pressure and torque with out running an exhaust? If so I would imagine thats why you don't run with out them

You will lose backpreasure. This will make you lose torque. It is not bad for the car, ist just that there are no benefits, you only lose power. You might gain slightly on top end rpms, but I dont think it will be enough to compensate for the lost torque.

yea ok

Well if its from the muffler out... then you can call them what you want but they are just tips, if they are 5 inches in depth or if they are 6 feet... just tip

In this months Sports Compact Car, they say that, its just an old hot rod saying, 1-6 Lb, of back pressure, its good, and its very hard to get that, so no, you realy can't go wrong with min. back pressure. How ever the idea is to keep the pressure, it a ythem, once you lose that, you lose Touqe.

I have a Camero muffler. Does that mean that since my set up is like a camero's that cameros only have dual tips? I have the same set up only modified to fit a maxima. It is dual exhaust. It is not FULL dual exhaust, but none the less, it is dual. The muffler, like on cameros, has one inlet and 2 outlets. You can call it whatever you want, but it is DUAL EXHAUST.

. Just because with a name like that, he can only know what he's talking about.
But I had something similar on my old legend... one pipe in 2 pipes out, but I think it was refered to as dual port exhaust...? when I think of a dual exhaust... I'm thinking...Corvette...I'm thinking...mustang SVT... you know Dual meaning 2 and all...I guess I'm lookin for 2 mufflers....

the cat actually only gains you 1+ hp...no noticible difference...the reason his site says 14 if you read closely its with the rndm tech cat back also....that gives the 14+ hp....as for udp...it does not gain hp...it frees it up about a 14 hp gain at the wheels..not bad for one pully...you would feel a night and day diffence between the too...like everyone says though....the y pipe is the best mod for the buck..... hpe that helps some...

Depends on your setup.
If you have NOS, Turbo, or S/C a straight pipe can help alot. With forced induction, a free flowing exhaust is very advantageous.

I've seen a Mitsu Eclipse Turbo that gained about 15 rwhp from a straight pipe.

With a N/A Maxima, I'm not sure it a sraight pipe would do much.
